1/4/2024 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown, Easter Monday races

1 A Book Of Days (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. Team Hayes trained three year old that resumed over 1200m at Pakenham where he got into a decent spot near the speed and he tried his guts out but found one better, and a good one at that, in Illative. Better for the run and with strong form, he appeals as an on top selection.

7 Verdoux (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Trapeze Artist gelding on debut for Team Corstens. This guy has had extensive jumpout work in readiness for start one, with two this time in, winning the latest at Flemington and seemingly moved quite well to my eye. He looks well educated for start one so watch the market.

3 Creek (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1200m for James Cummings. He resumed over 1000m at Bendigo where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, I did like the way he found the line late in the piece behind Smart Deel. Like him up in trip and he does get J Kah, so he has a bit in his corner to say he commands respect.

6 Upwoods (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the straight bat option for mine. Price/Kent trained gelding that hacked up in a 2550m maiden at Pakenham two back before going to 2400m on the Hillside here last time when a strong second to Mi Rock Aly, surging late and just missing out on the win. Hard fit, in form and finds a winnable race.

5 Samuel Langhorne (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Mick Kent trained stayer that has done most of his recent racing over 2400m on the Hillside track, the latest run being in the race mentioned above won by Mi Rock Aly when third. He’s the key and I dare say only threat to Upwoods.

9 Jackand (Bet Now:  $SP.00) brings the different form and Is racing as if 2400m will suit. He ran over 2100m at Benalla last time out and was good from off the speed, closing off to run third to High Torque. Like him up in trip and if different form works out, he might be the pony to beat.

3 Farag (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is short enough but all things being equal, I do think he has a bit on this lot. He has relished the rise to 3000m+, winning impressively over 3300m two back at Warrnambool before a spank job win over 3000m here last time. He only has to be holding his form and I think he’ll be winning again.

2 Border Leicester (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been up forever it seems like but he is holding his form really well for Team Browne. He ran fourth to Farag here last time out over 3000m. He got too far back and was never threatening but did find the line in a good effort. Shinn sticks and I think with a more positive steer, he’s dangerous against these.

1 Team Captain (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. He comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Feb 10 at Caulfield when solid in defeat over 2400m behind Wertheimer after racing wide for most of the trip. 3000m is ideal, he gets in really well after the claim and is the class runner.

2 Aztec State (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a good horse on the rise for Team Hayes and I am confident he can kick off his prep with a win here. He did nice things when last in work, ending the prep with a third over 1800m at Flemington on Cup Day. He has jumped out really well leading in and Zahra sticks with him from the Spring. Looks the one to beat.

6 Lady In Pink (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned in really good order for Team Corstens. She resumed over 1300m on the Hillside track where she took on the Mares and gee the win was arrogant. She sat on speed and was absolutely trucking before being clicked up and away she went for a dominant win. Off that return, she has to be respected.

8 Gifted Gamer (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the more fascinating runners. Patrick Payne trained three year old that resumes, having not raced since Oct 18 at Caulfield over the mile when doing work to land on speed and tiring late to finish down the track behind Mojave Desert. Three trials and three jumpouts to get ready for the return, so to say he’s fit would be an understatement. Watch the market.

2 Pivot City (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has plenty on these surely? Talented three year old for Price/Kent that ran over 1400m at Flemington last time out where he got back to near last in the run and worked home with purpose late in the piece behind Legacies. Like him back to 1200m, he gets B Shinn, the depth is nowhere near as deep…$2+ and he’s a bet. Best on the program.

6 Tacito (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Team Hayes trained gelding that resumes, having not raced for over a year. His last run came on March 29 last year when fourth over 1300m on the Hillside track here. He’s had his issues but has trialled/jumped out really well leading in, and he did show ability when racing, so watch the market.

5 Scorch (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Team Hawkes trained gelding that resumed at Caulfield Heath where he was near the speed and he tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there and get past In Her Stride. Fitter, his best is dangerous.

9 Poifect (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a good horse IMO for Team Hayes and I am confident she can resume with a win. She was being aimed for the Thousand Guineas in the Spring but didn’t quite measure up in the lead ups and was spelled soon after the Fillies Classic at The Valley. Has jumped out really well leading in, she has class/quality and I think that gets her home here first up.

4 Tropicconi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and take running down. She led them a merry dance to win over 1200m at Cranbourne last time, leading throughout and pretty much winning like it was a barrier trial and while she was impressive, she was aided by the savage inside bias, so she was flattered, but with her racing style, she’ll give herself every chance.

10 Amani (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in two runs this time in for Tom Sadler. She gave them a start and a beating to win impressively fresh over 1200m at Terang before going to 1400m at Pakenham where she got back in a slowly run race and kept finding the line without threatening behind Lightning Flash. Blinkers on, gets a claim…first four contender.

5 Moya Lass (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks ready to go first up and is the way I am leaning. Julius Sandhu trained mare that resumes, having not raced since Sep 24 over 1800m at Flemington where she got back to near last in the run and worked home quite well late in the piece behind Foreign Raider. First up at 1400m I do like, she gets J Kah and with two 1000m+ jumpouts, she’s ready to go.

4 Mawkeb (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Team Hayes, having not raced since Feb 3 over 1400m at Caulfield where she got back off the speed and kept finding the line in a good effort when third to Punch Lane. Two jumpouts since to keep her up to the mark and overall, this isn’t a deep race.

2 Cute As (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was scratched from a much easier race at Flemington on Saturday in preference of this. She ran at Caulfield last time out and was just outclassed behind Waltz On By. Better suited at this level, I think she’ll take beating even though 1400m is a slight query.

5 Hasseltoff (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will do me in the get out. Tom Dabernig trained gelding that ran over the mile at Caulfield last time in the Country Final where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a threat, he did work home with real purpose in a good effort behind Titan Of Choice. Good track/distance record and B Shinn on, he’ll take beating.

4 Sunsource (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to the mile for Busuttin/Young. He is a talented type that resumed over 1400m at Flemington where he seemingly had his chance and was held late by Legacies, but he was far from disgraced in defeat. This looks more his level and with a better set up, he’ll be around the mark.

2 Van Roy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hit and miss at times but his best is good enough to be around the mark. He ran over the mile at Pakenham last time where he led and gave a decent enough kick but tired in the straight ti finish down the track behind Rampant Lion. If he leads and gets control, he’ll be dangerous.

BEST BET: Race Five Number 2 Pivot City

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 3 Farag

LONG SHOT: Race Seven Number 5 Moya Lass
