Race 1. (12:30) Tab Highway Plate (C3) 1500m
8 Oneforian (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying this prep for Nick Olive and for mine, he’s going to take beating here. He ran over 1400m here two weeks ago where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, gee he worked home with purpose and was quite good in defeat. If he can settle closer in the run, he’ll take beating.
2 Adolphus (Bet Now: $SP.00) third up from a spell so he should just about be at peak fitness. Strong winner fresh at Canberra before going to a Highway at Randwick when leading and trying hard but just felt the pinch late. T Clark on so he’ll lead and take running down.
16 Princess Mary (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one I can entertain as a knockout hope. She ran behind Swift Charm two weeks back here. She was off speed and chasing and while she was never a winning threat, she kept finding the line and was good in defeat. Not sure she wins, but can run top four.
Race 2. (13:05) Midway (Bm72) 1350m
9 Pocketing (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a three year old heading in the right direction for Team Freedman. He has been kept on ice since New Years Day when off speed and chased strongly but couldn’t quite get there when second to impressive winner Oh Diamond Lil. Tick over trial was good and should be strong late.
5 Herb (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came two weeks back in the Midway here. He got off speed and seemed to get a decent enough run in transit but didn’t fire in the straight and was on the plain side. Better set up here, he’s an improver.
3 Silentstar (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over 1350m at Wyong where he got into a decent run in transit and failed to fire, finishing last behind Yorkshire. Better suited here I feel on the home track and his best is good enough to threaten.
Race 3. (13:40) Canonbury Stakes 1100m
I’ve had 7 Tropic (Bet Now: $SP.00) blackbooked since he went like a rocket in a trial win in the Spring. Come back, trialled recently at Rosehill and ran second. Not as impressive as the first trial, but he still moved quite well and had something up the sleeve to my eye. Waller two year olds are starting to hum…not sure this guy is at the level of Wodeton/United States, but he doesn’t need to be to make a winning debut here.
3 Burma Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a well bred colt for James Cummings that is on debut. This guy trialled like a rocket at Hawkesbury last Monday, moving very nicely late under no riding and had plenty up the sleeve. Stable can hum with their juveniles this time of year IMO so keen to see how he goes.
2 Fermoy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Zoustar that resumes for Chris Waller. He debuted here in the Spring where he looked raw/new to the caper and ran accordingly but didn’t disgrace himself in defeat behind The Playwright. Spelled and has trialled well enough to my eye so keen to see how he goes.
Race 4. (14:15) Widden Stakes 1100m
1 The Playwright (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the class edge to give this a shake. She comes through the Magic Millions where she was game in defeat but just couldn’t quite finish the job behind O’Ole. Back to 1100m at Rosehill, will land on speed and take running down.
3 Tempted (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for James Cummings, having not raced since a debut win at Warwick Farm where she got better as the race went on to win and win well. Tick over trial last week at Rosehill was quite good and the stable usually has their juveniles flying around this time of year.
5 Sequel (Bet Now: $SP.00) can run an improved race for Chris Waller. First run for the prep came here a fortnight back when off the speed and chasing but kept finding the line in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Wodeton. Better for that under the belt and back to Fillies grade, she can run an improved race.
Race 5. (14:50) Asahi Super Dry (Bm72) 1200m
1 Panic (Bet Now: $SP.00) didn’t really fire when last in work but I reckon Michael Freedman has him humming to return well. He has been given a good break since a failed early Spring prep but his two trials to get ready, especially his trial last week here, was very good behind Joliestar. I think he only runs well against these.
6 Polyglot (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the most likely. James Cummings trained three year old that resumed with a bang two weeks ago at Rosehill. He got the sweet sit in transit and once given the order to go by J Mac, he got better as the race went on to win. Room for upside/improvement, he takes beating.
7 Zouripper (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned really well for John Thompson and for mine is one of the leading contneders. He ran in the Midway here two weeks ago and was an eye catcher from off the speed I thought behind a good filly, Shohisha. Hard fit, can settle closer and be effective late.
Race 6. (15:25) Ranvet (Bm78) 2000m
5 Kapakiri (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned in pretty good order for Chris Waller. He resumed over 1500m two weeks ago at Rosehill when off speed and presented to win when having clear but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Zones. Fitter and up in trip, he takes beating I say.
12 Piggyback (Bet Now: $SP.00) is four weeks between runs for Ciaron Maher since racing over 1500m at Randwick where she got off speed and was never really a threat but stayed on and was good in defeat behind Vega Magnifico. Hard fit now and up to 2000m, she’s an improver at odds.
6 Soul Choice (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a query at the trip but she looks to land on speed quite comfortably and from there, she’ll be around the mark, as seen over 2000m at Randwick a few weeks back. She tried her guts out but just found one better late in Unlimited. That was her first run in four weeks so with room for improvement, she takes beating.
Race 7. (16:00) Captivant @ Kia Ora (Bm78) 1350m
6 Infatuation (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door. Bjorn Baker trained mare that ran in the Magic Millions F&M when near the speed and battled away really well in defeat behind Miss Roumbini, who would be $1.50 against these. That form surely reads well.
2 Bunker Hut (Bet Now: $SP.00) is two weeks between runs since racing at Randwick when getting into a decent spot just off the speed and he tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to Yondee. Lands in a great spot again and should be around the mark.
4 Promitto (Bet Now: $SP.00) is better suited over further but he looks to be humming. He resumes for David Atkins, having not raced since Sep 14 when a tired horse, finishing down the track over 2400m behind Matusalem. He has trialled up super to my eye, he’s a first four threat.
Race 8. (16:35) Southern Cross Stakes 1200m
Confident that 9 Accredited (Bet Now: $SP.00) measures up. This guy is several weeks between runs since a dominant win at Randwick when hunting up to hold a spot, copped heat but he ate it up and was dominant late to win and win well. Heading in the right direction and is one of the key chances.
7 Disneck (Bet Now: $SP.00) has earned a crack at Stakes grade with the way he’s racing. Bjorn Baker has him humming at present, making it three on the bounce when winning at Randwick four weeks ago. Loved the way he trialled here last week…the purple patch has come at Randwick. Can he translate that to Rosehill?
6 Ka Bling (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improvet for Peter Snowden. He hasn’t raced since Boxing Day at Caulfield Heath in the Christmas Stakes where he got back in an on pace dominated affair so forgive and forget the down the track effort. Like him back in Sydney and the tick over trial was quite good.
Race 9. (17:15) Inglis Classic Yearling Sale 9-11 Feb (Bm88) 1200m
I was giving 5 Overriding (Bet Now: $SP.00) a massive chance off nominations for the Southern Cross so here, she is really hard to beat. 1600m was too far last start in the Big Dance but I thought she closed off very well in defeat. Spelled, two very strong trials under the belt, goes well fresh, 1200m is ideal, she’ll be strong late…I think she’s worthy of an each way bet.
7 With Your Blessing (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned very well for John Thompson and is one of the key chances. He resumed with a win four weeks ago at Randwick, sitting on speed and found plenty under pressure late to fend them off and win. Improvement to come, hard to beat against these.
1 Grand Impact (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and run well, as seen at Wyong last time when leading throughout and credit to him, he was there to be run down but he found under pressure to fend them off and score. He’ll give a sight from the front.
Race 10. (17:55) Tab (Bm88) 1500m
8 Yorkshire (Bet Now: $SP.00) should take care of these in the get out. He is a few weeks between runs since an arrogant win at Wyong where he looked a moral on paper and duly saluted to win and win comfortably. J Mac on, lands in a plum spot…should take care of these.
18 For Victory (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Randwick where Lloyd rode the track pattern by hugging the inside…unfortunately the gaps couldn’t eventuate and it ended up being an ugly watch. Racing well and should be around the mark.
13 Space Age (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1500m after racing over 1400m at Randwick a few weeks ago. He got off speed and while he was never threatening, he kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat I thought. He’ll appreciate a rise in trip and has good upside to come.
