Race 1. (12:30) Brb Electrical Mdn Plate 1400m
10 Victory Command (Bet Now: $SP.00) I like in the opener. Moody/Coleman trained three year old that resumed over 1200m at Cranbourne where he was dragged back from the wide gate and conceded a start from the outset but I really liked the way he finished his race off when a close up fourth to King Ben. Can settle much closer in the run from the inside gate and up to 1400m, fitter, I am happy to be in her corner.
11 Alectrona (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team McEvoy filly that has had two runs at 1200m to start this prep and she’s racing like she will appreciate a rise to 1400m. Both runs for the prep have come at Ballarat, the latest seeing her run second to impressive winner Bizot. Think the extra 200m is ideal and third up from a spell, she should just about be at peak fitness. Key threat.
4 Maggie’s Son (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate getting to 1400m. He resumed over 1200m at Echuca where the market took a set against him and while he didn’t win, he was solid enough in defeat behind Outwitted. Ran well at 1400m on debut earlier in the year in a hot maiden so with that in mind, he commands some level of respect.
Race 2. (13:00) No Fuss Event Hire (Bm64) 1300m
5 Run Harry Run (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be heading in the right direction for Michael Moroney. Bit of an ugly watch on debut at Ballarat when not getting clear air. He then went to Kilmore where he led throughout, ridden with intent and was strong to the line in getting the job done. That was 1450m so back to 1300m I find interesting but if he gets front end control, he’ll take running down.
2 Magic Mogul (Bet Now: $SP.00) will welcome the drop back in grade/depth after racing at Caulfield over 1400m where he was keen behind the speed and it left him with no petrol tickets for the straight behind Brave Mead, who would be $1.10 against these, so the form reads well and if there is petrol left in the tank, he appeals.
6 Scully (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done little wrong in a three start career. Did more than enough two back behind subsequent Stakes winner Gumdrops before going to Ballarat again where he sat neat the speed throughout and was quite dominant in the run to the line, drawing clear late to win impressively. Now his confidence is up, he can go on with it.
Race 3. (13:35) Turners Crossing (Bm64) 2400m
10 Mogadishu (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the one on the up and off his last start romp, he’s the one they have to beat. Carey/Walker trained son of Fiorente that comes here off the back of a six length romp over 2500m at Cranbourne where he looked a near moral on paper and he made a mess of them, proving quite strong to the line. It’s all upside/improvement with him and this isn’t a deep 64. Keen on his prospects.
5 Haaracaine (Bet Now: $SP.00) is heading in the right direction for Nick Ryan. This import was 1400m to 2000m last start at Ballarat where he seemingly lapped up the rise in distance, making a mess of them in an outstanding display, confirming the early promise. Now he has a win on the board, he can certainly go on with it.
11 Scamster (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the 2500m run under the belt, which should hold him in good stead for this. That came on the home track at Cranbourne where he seemingly had every chance to win but couldn’t quite get past a tough nut in Keevs. He doesn’t have the quality/upside of some of these, but think he only has to hold his form to be around the mark.
Race 4. (14:10) Bendigo & District Rsl (Bm70) 1600m
3 Big Brew (Bet Now: $SP.00) is bursting to win a race and I think he gets a great chance here for Team Hope. He ran at the midweek meeting at Caulfield last time when off the speed and kept finding the line without threatening behind impressive winner Belthil. He was 1600m back to 1400m so now back up to the mile, room for improvement, hard to beat if he’s within range on the turn.
2 Angry Skies (Bet Now: $SP.00) returns to Victoria after a two run stint in SA where he won the first run before a plain effort behind a nice horse, Thirsty Guest, who failed with excuses in the Gawler Cup on Friday. This horse is talented when right and despite a tricky gate, I am sure they will roll forward, try and land on speed and be hard to beat.
7 Lady Adelaide (Bet Now: $SP.00) hasn’t been too far away of late this time in and maps soft. Was keen on her last time at Echuca and after receiving every chance near the speed, to the eye, she was disappointing when third but I think the five week gap brought her undone so with that run under the belt, kind map again, she rates highly.
Race 5. (14:45) Big Al's Water (Bm64) 1100m
6 Volpe Risorsa (Bet Now: $SP.00) can win again for Toby Lake. Former Team McEvoy mare that her first run for Lake at this track/distance where she was double figure odds but she won like an even money chance, giving them a start and a beating in such an impressive display. Loved the way she went in a recent tick over trial and Olly, who rode her to victory first up, sticks for this.
8 Material Dreams (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an unbeaten filly for Nick Ryan that resumes. This girl had a two run prep in the latter part of the Autumn to start her career, winning both races. Beware the unbeaten horse and although the form out of both races has been crap, her recent jumpout work has been more than encouraging.
9 Motitsi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous if the inside gate is used to advantage. She ran at this track/distance last time out where she was dragged back from the wide gate to find a spot and spotted those in front too much head start but I did like the way she found the line late in the piece. I think if she can settle closer in the run from the gate, she only runs well.
Race 6. (15:20) Bendigo Locksmiths (Bm78) 1100m
I reckon 9 Hongbao (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a great each way gamble here for David Jolly. He is several weeks between runs since resuming at Murray Bridge where not much went right for him when seemingly having plenty to offer and I reckon with clear air, he should have gone close to winning instead of running a 1.7L sixth to Grand Host, who ran well the next start, so the form reads well, and I think with clear air this time around, he only runs well.
2 Rich Fortune (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a quality mare for Jerome Hunter that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since March 25 when down the straight at Flemington and was very good in defeat from the back in the Sunlight Classic behind What You Need. Couple of jumpouts under the belt for the return, gets in well after the claim and does have class. Market watch for sure.
11 Luna Cat (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a winner at Bendigo previously and I think she can run an improved race. Strong winner at the midweeks at Sandown two back before going to Caulfield when wide throughout and was never really a factor behind Dancing Alone. Maps to do no work in the run and I think with her best form, she’s good enough to be around the mark.
Race 7. (16:00) Bendigo Cup 2400m
11 Pesto (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been quite effective at 2400m+ and off a dominant last start win, he commands respect. That win came at Caulfield where the positive ride from McNeil certainly helped his cause, getting the revs built up early and he was very strong to the line in winning. This race is thin, he’s in form, gets weight relief…only runs well.
8 Suizuro (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it for mine. He was backed with confidence late when racing in the Moe Cup last time and #They got it spot on as he got the splits late and drove hard for an impressive win. With a positive racing pattern, he’ll give himself every chance and can take this out.
1 Luncies (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He comes through the Hill Stakes at Rosehill where he wasn’t really suited by the race shape and track pattern, but that said, I thought he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Montefilia. This is a massive drop in grade/depth, so with the class factor, he commands respect.
Race 8. (16:40) Catanach's Jewellers (Bm70) 1300m
8 Jimmysstar (Bet Now: $SP.00), I think could have panels on these. Very interesting runner that makes his Australian debut for Maher/Eustace after racing in NZ, where he won two of three outings before being purchased and is now here. Had a jumpout at Cranbourne and gee he looked to be trucking on speed when winning under a hold. Should press forward from the wide gate and IMO, he has a bit on these.
Fitter and up to 1300m are two big ticks for 1 Treporti (Bet Now: $SP.00). Danny O’Brien trained gelding that resumed over 1100m at Caulfield where he got back off the speed and tried hard but being first up, he just lacked the polish to go with them late behind Dancing Alone. Might want one more, but he has a touch of quality when right and maps to settle much closer in the run.
9 Demando (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. She attempted to lead throughout at this track/distance last start and gave a decent mini kick but couldn’t quite see it through behind Stripped Black. I reckon with a more conservative steer, she’ll be better off and can pinch a first four spot.
Race 9. (17:20) Bet365 Mcc Series Heat 8 (Bm78) 1400m
5 First Mate (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the right form around him to give this a shake for Kylie Vella. He has won two of his past three, winning three back at Werribee before a close up fourth at Caulfield to St Lawrence. He raced again at Caulfield a couple of months ago where he got a dream run in transit and it was just a matter of Shinn pushing the button. Once he did, it was race over and he was far too good. Commands respect given how well he’s racing.
11 Stripped Black (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another look for Lindsey Smith. Strong winner at this track/distance two back before racing on Horsham Cup Day where he just got too far back on a day where leaders dominated so forgive and forget the run behind Red Phantom. Think on a more fair track here, if he’s within range on the turn, he’s good enough to win.
2 Hi Stranger (Bet Now: $SP.00) tends to save his best for his home track here and the stable should always be respected on Cup Day. He ran over 1400m at Caulfield last time when off the speed and seemed to get a decent enough run in transit but just whacked to the line late in the piece behind Jennilala. Should get decent cover from the gate and we know his best is clearly good enough.
