It’s ‘Super Saturday’ at Randwick on Saturday, with three Group l races on the ten event program highlighting a fab day of racing. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:50) Breeders' Plate 1000m
Have to say this looks a pretty weak edition of the Breeders Plate, with no real standouts to my eye. For the sake of a tip, I’ll side with 1 Empire Of Japan (Bet Now: $4.20 TOP ODDS). He ran second in his trial but I liked that he responded instantly when J Mac asked for an effort, finishing off nicely alongside Flying Trapeze. J Mac is on, and should prove hard to beat.
7 Physical Graffiti (Bet Now: $3.60 TOP ODDS) is a John O’Shea trained colt who has talent. He attempted to lead throughout in his trial and wasn’t knocked about late when run down by Don Corleon, who was pushed out to win. Avdulla was relatively quiet on Physical Graffiti, and he seemed to move well.
2 Flying Trapeze (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) won the trial mentioned above that Empire Of Japan ran second in. Flying Trapeze won, leading all the way, and responded well under the whip, which is a good sign for a juvenile. Has the early pace to land on speed and prove hard to beat.
Race 2. (12:25) Gimcrack Stakes 1000m
I like 7 Perfect Proposal (Bet Now: $2.50 TOP ODDS) for the GaiBott team. She led throughout to win her trial and despite wanting to lay out under pressure, she seemed to have plenty under the hood and could have won by further had Clark asked. Think she is the one they have to beat.
12 Sicilian (Bet Now: $4.50 TOP ODDS) is a key threat. Stablemate of Perfect Proposal that was also a trial winner. She had J Mac steering and she led all the way under no real pressure, seemingly moving nicely and safely held her rivals at bay. Market will be interesting to see what it does with her compared to the stable, but she does look talented in her own right.
3 Divne Glory (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS) is a daughter of Hellbent for Team Snowden that debuts. She ran second to Platinum Jubilee in a trial and albeit was safely held, she seemed to move well under no real pressure from McEvoy, who sticks here. Maps ideally and is a knockout hope.
Race 3. (13:00) Schweppes (Bm88) 1600m
I think the rise to the mile is perfect for 14 Arnold (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS). All three runs this time in have come over 1400m, the latest being here two weeks ago where he looked a moral on paper but I reckon J Mac rode him a bit too positively, which took something away from his finale. Up in trip with a more patient steer, confident he’ll bounce back.
2 Hosier (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) is a very good horse for Kris Lees that is tuning up for The Big Dance. He got his ticket into that race via an arrogant Coffs Harbour Cup triumph, where Bowman rode him like a good thing and he duly was. The 3kg claim for Gibbons very much helps and he does fly on the fresh side.
10 Tamerlane (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) is bursting to win a race. He ran over 1500m at Rosehill three weeks ago where he was near the speed throughout and he battled away pretty well in defeat, beaten by a potential Golden Eagle horse in Waterford. That has to read well for this and fitter, up to the 1600m, he appeals.
Race 4. (13:35) Hill Stakes 2000m
8 Montefilia (Bet Now: $1.95 TOP ODDS) looks quite clearly the one to beat. She was somewhat unwanted in betting when resuming in the George Main but she ran a super race in defeat I thought behind Anamoe, sticking on very nicely. She’s on track for the Cups and I think with her class, she’s the one to bet on here I’d suggest.
2 Numerian (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) looks to be right on track for the Caulfield Cup. Resumed in the Chelmsford and yes, was suited by the pattern, but first up at the mile, the run was very good when second to Knights Order. Caulfield Cup is his target and off that return, he’s on track and commands respect here.
5 Elephant (Bet Now: $19.00 TOP ODDS) looks well placed at this level. I do hope the stable realise he’s not a Group l horse, because that has been evident in two runs this time in, being just fair in the PB Lawrence and then failing in the Memsie. Gets to a suitable trip, hard fit, …he gets a great chance to find positive form.
Race 5. (14:10) Dulcify Stakes 1600m
I am stunned that $12+ is available for 2 Flag Of Honour (Bet Now: $3.90) in the Spring Champion. If he keeps progressing like I think he will, I think he couldbe a moral in that race. He resumed in the Ming Dynasty and I loved the way he found the line from the back behind Golden Mile. That form was solid enough in the Golden Rose and I do think fitter, up to 1600m on the big track, good luck beating him.
1 Williamsburg (Bet Now: $4.40) is back on track I feel. Just a run fresh in a barrier trial really behind Kibou in the Up And Coming. He then went to the Ming Dynasty and found the line quite well behind Golden Mile. He looks ready for the mile now, so he has to be respected.
3 Owen County (Bet Now: $16.00) is another that is on track for the Spring Champion. Bit on the plain side fresh behind Arnold but was much better last time out when a closing third to Quality Time, who spanked them last Saturday, so the form has been ticked off and I do think the mile on the big track will ideal.
Race 6. (14:45) Flight Stakes 1600m
Have to be with 1 Fireburn (Bet Now: $2.60). She is absolutely flying for Gary Portelli. She ran last Saturday in the Golden Rose and given where she was in the run, she was no hope, but gee I loved the way she finished the race off behind Jacquinot. She’ll love the rise to 1600m and if the rain comes, she will take a power of beating.
It looks all upside with 3 Zougotcha (Bet Now: $3.20). She was there to be beaten in the Tea Rose but once she was challenged, she pinned the ears back and knuckled down strongly to win and win well. She has room for improvement and she races as if the rise to the mile will be ideal.
6 Madame Pommery (Bet Now: $12.00) is the sneaky hope. I reckon she got to Zougotcha a bit early in the Tea Rose where she looked as if she’d go past her, but she just got the staggers late and Zougotcha was able to fight back and win. The mile should be fine and with a more patient steer, she’ll launch late.
Race 7. (15:25) Premiere Stakes 1200m
1 Lost And Running (Bet Now: $2.30) is the one for me. I thought he was outstanding in The Shorts behind Nature Strip. He was wide no cover for the trip, four wide, and stuck on so well, finding the line with purpose behind Nature Strip. If that hasn’t busted him and he improves, good luck beating him.
3 Mazu (Bet Now: $3.00) showed IMO that he can measure up against the big boys. He was wide throughout fresh in The Shorts and kept on in a good effort behind Nature Strip, finishing fifth. If we do get a drop of rain, I think he comes right into play. Hopefully can get a better run in transit.
2 Masked Crusader (Bet Now: $11.00) doesn’t want too much rain to hit the track. He was very good late in The Shorts, warming to the task nearer the inside behind Nature Strip. If this track is Good4/Soft5, he is one of the hardest to beat. Anything worse, and I think they’ll ride him like a barrier trial for The Everest.
Race 8. (16:05) Epsom Handicap 1600m
5 Icebath (Bet Now: $3.70) is very much deserving of a blacktype win, especially a Group l win, and gee I think she gets her chance here. She has come back in super order. Last start, I thought they pulled the wrong rein by running in the George Main and not the Tibbie, but she ran out of her skin when second to Anamoe. Back to a handicap, 53.5kg…gee she looks so well placed, especially with a drop of rain.
She’s right on track is 8 Hinged (Bet Now: $3.90). Definite pass mark in the Winx Stakes before going to the George Main where she was left flat footed when the sprint went on but picked up and was very good in defeat behind Anamoe. Primed for the Randwick mile, I think she’ll be around the mark.
What a ripping mare 4 Nimalee (Bet Now: $13.00) is. The positive ride from Bayliss won her the race last Saturday when taking out the Golden Pendant. Proven performer at the Randwick mile and she could potentially slot in just off the speed if they roll forward again. Hard to beat.
Race 9. (16:45) The Metropolitan 2400m
If 15 Hamerons (Bet Now: $14.00) runs, he’s the bet each way. He ran last Saturday at Rosehill and was given absolutely no hope with the ride, but he rocketed to the line to finish third. He only has 51kg on his back and swims, plus a Waller horse on the back up…the signs are there to suggest he’s here to rock and roll.
It’s hard to get away from 7 Durston (Bet Now: $3.30). He is flying for Chris Waller, winning the Wyong Cup and Newcastle Cup respectively. Each time he has been given a 12/10 by J Mac and has spanked them both runs. He’s got that sense of timing, in form, handles all conditions and has change up speed, something most of these do not. It’s hard to get away from Durston.
10 Realm Of Flowers (Bet Now: $21.00) is third up from a break and should just about be at peak fitness. Was okay late fresh behind Lord Ardmore before going to Randwick and she battled on well enough in testing conditions when third to Cadre Du Noir. Eats up a truly run 2400m and has upside, plus won’t mind juice in the track.
Race 10. (17:25) Cleanaway (Bm94) 1200m
11 Bacchanalia (Bet Now: $2.70) for me in the get out. James Cummings trained four year old that resumed three weeks ago at Rosehill where J Mac rode with intent from the wide gate to sit on speed and that early burn just told late behind Remarque. He loves getting his feet wet, so the wetter the better, and draws to do no work.
7 Coal Crusher (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Joe Pride trained galloper that resumes. He really came of age in the Winter, going from just a horse to being a proper Saturday class animal, with Glyn Schofield being a big key. He has ridden the horse five times for five wins. He’ll roll forward and take beating.
10 Zoushack (Bet Now: $12.00) is sneaky flying for Joe Pride. The two trials indicated he had come back in super order and the resumption confirmed that thought process, rocketing home late from the back when fourth to impressive winner Brigantine. Whether he wants one more, not sure, but I really liked his return.
