Race 1. (14:40) Coolmore Super Mdn Plate 1900m
1 Counter (Bet Now:Β $3.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. I have been on his back pretty much throughout this prep and while he has run well, he hasn’t won. That said, I think that can change here given he has the 1900m run under the belt now and the depth here isn’t deep. Hoping for a Nash special.
3 Two Questions (Bet Now:Β $6.00) has more upside/progression than most and has the Maher/Eustace polish. His opening two career runs came in Victoria where he was solid without jumping up and down. His last start came at this track/distance where he ran fifth (Counter third), but the big tick for him is Blinkers first time, a gear change the stable uses to effect better than any camp in the country IMO.
5 Dark Lever (Bet Now:Β $126.00) isn’t the worst $101+ shot running around on New Years Day. He ran over 1900m at Gosford last time and made up solid ground without threatening behind Slipstreaming. Maps to do no work in the run…I highly doubt he wins, but he can run top four without totally surprising.
Race 2. (15:20) Ranvet Mdn Plate 1200m
4 Equipage (Bet Now:Β $6.50) for me. James Cummings trained filly that was a few weeks between runs when racing over 1400m at Kembla last time where she loomed like a $1.10 chance but just couldn’t quite put the race to bed when third. Better for that run under the belt and 1400m back to 1200m, Tommy sticking, happy to be in her corner and think she’s a bet around $6+.
10 Kitty Chat (Bet Now:Β $1.40) is a GaiBott filly that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since her debut back in the Winter when placing at Warwick Farm behind subsequent Group l winner Joliestar. Trial work has been strong, she’ll jump on speed and prove hard to get past.
7 I Am Famous (Bet Now:Β $15.00) should be suited up in trip for Chris Waller. She resumed over 1100m here where she didn’t really get the clearest of paths in the straight and should have finished closer behind Chartwell. Maps to do no work in the run and if the inside gate can be used to advantage, she’s dangerous.
Race 3. (16:00) Drinkwise Mdn Plate 1200m
10 Viaconi (Bet Now:Β $1.70) is short but he does look to have a bit on this lot. Nicconi colt for Kris Lees that debuted over 1100m here where he didn’t quite get the rub of the green but that said, he was pretty good in defeat behind Chartwell when second. He should find the top pretty comfortably and from there, prove extremely hard to get past.
7 Ravenclaw (Bet Now:Β $4.50) is a son of Harry Angel that is second up for Chris Waller. He resumed in the Chartwell race where he did too much work on speed and tired late to finish down the track in a clear forgive. I think he will be much better with a bunny to chase so if that can eventuate, he’ll be around the mark.
9 Val D’Isere (Bet Now:Β $20.00) is an improver at odds. Ryan/Alexiou trained three year old that debuted on the Beaumont track at Newcastle where he had a suck run in behind and seemingly had his chance, failing to finish his race off behind Chief Witness when fourth. Gets Blinkers on with an ideal map…can be a big improver.
Race 4. (16:40) James Squire (Bm72) 1250m
If this track is playing fair, I am keen on 6 Castillian (Bet Now:Β $5.00) for Joe Pride. First run for the new stable came at Randwick over 1100m where he was flat footed when the sprint went on but he picked up and was very good late behind Boston Rocks. Fitter, up in trip, I think good luck beating him if he’s within range on the turn.
3 Amati (Bet Now:Β $4.60) is a daughter of Sebring for Chris Waller that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since October 4 on the Kenso when back off the speed and found the line well enough behind Avebury. Can sprint well fresh, trial was good, maps okay and is 1/1 at the track. Watch the market and see what it does.
2 Capital Asset (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is a Capitalist gelding for Team Snowden that is first up. His last run came on Sep 21 at Hawkesbury when just off the speed and presented to win but couldn’t quite get there when third to Zouologist. Thought he trialled up really well at Hawkesbury and his best is clearly good enough to be around the mark.
Race 5. (17:20) Schweppes (Bm64) 1550m
9 Utopian Wine (Bet Now:Β $4.20) looks to be a filly for Chris Waller that is heading in the direction. She has won two of her four career outings, the latest coming over the mile at Gosford where she gave them a start and a beating in a dominant display. The way she won there, she looks city class for sure and confident she can measure up here.
3 Hellfire Express (Bet Now:Β $7.00) is flying for Annabel Neasham and commands respect. This guy has won his past two, two back winning at Orange before going to Tuncurry where he found firmer footing and was even more impressive. He is right down in the weights after the claim, maps perfect…no reason why he can’t win again.
2 My Truth (Bet Now:Β $7.50) is one for wider exotics. He ran fourth in the race mentioned above won by Utopian Wine. He sat on speed throughout and gave a mini kick but couldn’t quite see it through and just felt the pinch late in the race, finishing fourth. He is 1/1 at the track/distance and with a cheap run on speed, he’s dangerous at odds.
Race 6. (18:00) The Agency Real Estate (Bm64) 1900m
1 Yankee Hussel (Bet Now:Β $5.00) has found winning form again and she can go on with it. Kris Lees trained mare that looked a moral when racing over 2100m at Gosford last time and despite a nervous moment or two in the run, she was dominant in winning. Truly run 1900m will be no issue, she’ll press forward and take beating.
6 Ring Ahoy (Bet Now:Β $4.40) is a Chris Waller trained gelding that is knocking on the door to win. His last couple of runs have seen him finish second at this track/distance to stablemate Monarchs Brae where each time he has found the line strongly but just missed out on getting there. Gets run of the race from the draw, he’s clearly going to be a threat.
4 Bak Da Man (Bet Now:Β $13.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Nathan Doyle. He ran over the mile at Wyong last time out where he was flat footed when the sprint went on but he picked up and was pretty good late in the piece behind Oakfield Wallaby. Up in trip, maps to settle closer, he’s a knockout hope.
Race 7. (18:30) Canterbury Sprint 1200m
5 Zou Tiger (Bet Now:Β $4.60) has the potential to blow this field away if he’s ready to go. Just depends if indeed he’s ready to go. His last run came in the Fred Best during the Brisbane Winter when far from disgraced in defeat behind Hawaii Five Oh. Gelded, Blinkers on, nice trial under the belt..the set up is there to say he will run a beauty.
6 Brudenell (Bet Now:Β $4.40) is a sharp sprinter for Kris Lees who is proven at 1200m and despite the wide gate, he appeals. He led throughout to win over 1100m at Randwick last time, producing sustained speed from the front and was much too good for them in a sharp effort. He will have to work from the gate but is proven at the trip.
10 King Of Hastings (Bet Now:Β $9.00) is second up for Team Freedman and his best is dangerous against these. He resumed on Ballarat Cup Day and was far from disgraced in defeat I thought behind Taunting on a day up/in was gold. Good speed in front, he can launch over the top.
Race 8. (19:00) Tab (Bm64) 1100m
2 Chartwell (Bet Now:Β $10.00) will do me each way in the get out. Annabel Neasham trained four year old that resumed in a maiden at this track/distance where he was able to lob into a beaut spot behind the speed before angling clear and despite doing a bit wrong in the straight, he was too good. Good upside and improvement to come, maps perfect…hard to beat, and you’re getting a price to find out.
11 Fire Star (Bet Now:Β $4.40) is a Team Snowden colt that resumes. He had a two run prep in the Winter to start his career, winning impressively on debut before a down the track effort at Stakes level at Rosehill behind Libertad. Moved well enough in a recent Rosehill trial, he gets a sweet sit from the gate and has a touch of quality. Watch the market.
3 Global Empire (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is finding it hard to win a race but he’s racing well and hasn’t been too far away of late. Just missed out on the win fresh at Warwick Farm before going to Gosford where he was on speed, perhaps ridden a touch too warm and didn’t quite finish the race off when third. Perhaps with a more conservative steer, he will be more competitive.
