Gosford Race Club has revamped one of its flagship events with the Gold Cup to be run as part of a summer twilight program from next year.
The club switched the 2100-metre Listed race to a spring date in 2009 when it was won by Spinney but has now decided it would be best positioned in early January.
“The Gosford Quarries Gosford Gold Cup has fluctuated between different dates for many years and we are pleased to be given the opportunity to conduct our premier event at a time when we are confident we can attract a large crowd,” Gosford Race Club chairman Michael Cusick said.
“The population of the central coast swells significantly during the summer holidays and it is imperative that the club takes advantage of any opportunity to drive on-course revenue.”
The Gosford Gold Cup will be run on January 12 next year and will coincide with the start of the central coast club’s newly-created twilight season.
The meeting will be the first of five twilight programs between January and March.
