Leading rails bookmaker Lindsay Gallagher is free to return to fielding at Eagle Farm on Saturday following a successful appeal against a suspension.
Gallagher was recently suspended for a month and fined $6000 by stewards over his use of his personal mobile phone at a race meeting at Doomben in January.
Racing Queensland stewards had found Gallagher guilty of 30 breaches of regulations after an inquiry into the bookmaker’s use of his personal mobile phone to take bets at the Doomben meeting on January 29 and the recording of those bets in his ledgers.
The inquiry heard Tabcorp records indicated that an account in Gallagher’s name had been utilised to make bets, which do not appear in his ledgers, between September 2010 and November 2010 while Gallagher was operating as a bookmaker.
Gallagher’s appeal against the severity of the sentence was upheld on Thursday allowing him to return to bookmaking immediately.
Meanwhile, jockey Justin Stanley was cleared of any wrongdoing after stewards inquired into the handling of Inch Ahead who ran fifth as $4.60 equal favourite in a class two at the Gold Coast on February 17.
Stewards were satisfied Stanley had no case to answer after questioning trainer Les Kelly and the rider at a reconvened inquiry on Thursday.
A separate inquiry involving jockey Chris Whiteley on the John Wallace-trained Helluva Hurry, who ran fourth in the same race as the other equal favourite, was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
Wallace had a prior commitment and could not attend the inquiry.
