World’s best racehorse Equinox retired

Silk Racing owners officially confirmed on Thursday that Equinox, acclaimed as the world’s best racehorse, has been retired to stud following his commanding victory in the Japan Cup.

Trained by Tetsuya Kimura, Equinox concludes his racing career with an impressive record of 10 starts, boasting 8 wins, 2 runner-up finishes, and an unblemished mark of 6 victories in Group 1 races. Notably, he secured a triumphant win in the Dubai Sheema Classic earlier this year.

The pinnacle of Equinox’s achievements was marked by his exceptional Timeform score of 136, the highest in the world, as attested after his dominant performance in the Japan Cup. This rating positioned him three points ahead of Ace Impact, the winner of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, who also recently retired from racing.

The Japan Cup, witnessed by a crowd exceeding 85,000 at Tokyo Racecourse, showcased Equinox’s prowess as he cruised to victory under the skilled guidance of jockey Christophe Lemaire. The overwhelming favourite at odds of $1.30 with betting sites, Equinox’s stellar performance added to his illustrious career.

Equinox will now commence a new chapter in his life as a stallion at Japan’s renowned Shadai Stallion Station. While the service fee for Equinox is yet to be disclosed, his retirement to stud marks a significant transition in the world of horse racing.
