A potential, not just champion, but possibly even a legend, was unearthed this morning at Belmont Park in New York, USA.

Being Belmont Stakes Day, it’s a day that’s synonymous with producing legendary sporting moments, as typically it’s the final Jewel in the American 3 year old Triple Crown.

It’s typically a gruelling test of toughness and stamina combined, as most horses that run it it are coming off the Kentucky Derby (1800m) on the first Saturday in May, into the Preakness Stakes (1900m) 3 weeks after the Derby and then finally the Belmont Stakes (2400m) just a fortnight after the Preakness. That’s why the Triple Crown is such a revered contest, not just in racing circles worldwide but also in general sporting circles.

But due to the coronavirus pandemic that forced the USA & racing in the country into a total lockdown, this years Belmont was run over 1800m and was the first leg of the Triple Crown.

The race was won but odds-on favourite Tiz The Law.

But in years to come it’ll likely be a 3 year old filly named GAMINE, rather then the Belmont Stakes win of Tiz The Law.

Gamine has set the racing world alight this morning after a stunning win in the Gr.1 Acorn Stakes (1600m – Dirt), a prestigious Gr.1 Race over 1 mile for 3yo fillies that has been a fixture on Belmont Stakes Day since 1931.
No less than 14 winners of the race have progressed on to be inducted in racing’s Hall of Fame, so it’s a good horses’ race, as they say.

Gamine won the Acorn for 2020 by a mind blowing 17 & 3/4 lengths and Triple Crown winning jockey (on American Pharaoh) had plenty left in the tank as she cruised to the line.
Her time for the mile was 1:32:55, which nearly broke the all ages track record & smashed the Acorn Stakes race record time by over a full second. Again as aforementioned 14 Hall of Fame fillies have won the race and she’s gone a full second plus faster than any of those 14 or any of the other 80 odd winners ever has.

I get the feeling this could be the next great champion of the world, of the fairer sex, following in the hoof prints of Winx, Zenyatta, Enable, Black Caviar & Makybe Diva.

Follow her career closely, it could be one hell of a ride!
