Packing Angel delivered an impressive victory in the Class 3 Broadwood Handicap (1400m) at Sha Tin on Sunday, solidifying his credentials for Hong Kong’s prestigious Four-Year-Old Classic Series. Ridden by Zac Purton and trained by Francis Lui, the gelding showed marked improvement, with Purton praising his steady progress. “It was a pretty soft win in the end, and there’s a bit more there,” Purton noted.
Packing Angel is now on track for the HK$13M Hong Kong Classic Mile (1600m) on January 31, with potential to progress to the HK$13M Hong Kong Classic Cup (1800m) and HK$26M BMW Hong Kong Derby (2000m) in March.
The win also brought Purton closer to Douglas Whyte’s Hong Kong record of 1,813 career victories, with Purton now just 8 wins behind after a double on the day. Packing Angel’s triumph highlights the horse’s rising star status and Purton’s relentless pursuit of history.
