Smart sprinter Lady Of The Desert has been retired after failing to properly recover from injury.
Trained by Brian Meehan and owned by Jaber Abdullah, the four-year-old won the Diadem Stakes last year as well as finishing second in the Prix de l’Abbaye and Sprint Cup.
She also won the Lowther Stakes at two but had not made an appearance this season.
“You come across a horse like Lady Of The Desert very rarely, but when you do you have to enjoy them, ” Meehan told his website.
“It is sad for Mr Abdullah, but she retires to the breeding shed as a triple Group winner who also placed three times at Group One level. In all she won four and was placed in four of 11 career starts.
“She didn’t always have the best of luck – as in the French 1000 Guineas when she was repeatedly blocked yet still was beaten barely a length – so she did deserve a Group One success,
“We’ll miss her at Manton, but we’ll always remember her and wish her and Mr Abdullah all the best for the future.”
