Malcolm Jefferson will give According To Pete an easy couple of weeks after his fine run at Kelso on Saturday before building him back up for the Grand National.
The North Yorkshire trainer was delighted with the 11-year-old’s effort in taking second place behind Master Of The Hall in the Premier Chase.
And Jefferson revealed that Harry Haynes, who has ridden the horse in all his five starts this term, including winning the Rowland Meyrick Chase and Peter Marsh Chase, will keep the mount at Aintree on April 14.
“He ran well and I’m very happy with him,” Jefferson said.
“We’ll just keep him ticking over now and we’ll step his work up nearer the time. He’ll have a quiet week or two now.
“We won’t give him a racecourse gallop. He’ll do all his work at home. He’s not a hard horse to put right.
“Harry will ride him at Aintree. The two have got on really well together.”
