The stellar career of superstar South African sprinter J J The Jet Plane is in limbo after he suffered a serious injury when working in Dubai.
The winner of the Group One Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin in December and the Group Two Al Quoz Sprint (1000m) in Dubai in March was being trained for the KrisFlyer International sprint in Singapore but will now return to South Africa for treatment, the Racing Post reported.
It said a statement released by trainer Lucky Houdalakis’ wife Natalie on behalf of T&L Racing Stables said: “JJ has unfortunately suffered an injury in track work in Dubai whilst preparing for the KrisFlyer International Sprint in May.
“He has suffered a core lesion of his medial lower suspensory of his near foreleg.
“Although not life threatening or permanently career ending, it is however serious enough to put an end to his international campaign.
“”We have decided that in the best interest of JJ’s welfare, he is to return home to South Africa as soon as possible, where we can hopefully nurture him back to full health once again.”
From 26 starts J J The Jet Plane has won 14 times, including six Group One victories, with his total career earnings in excess of STG1.4 million ($A2.14 million).
