Connections of Goldikova are in no rush to decide whether the brilliant mare will return to Royal Ascot following her comeback victory in the Prix d’Ispahan at Longchamp on Sunday.
Freddie Head’s six-year-old secured a remarkable 13th Group One victory in the nine-furlong (1800m) contest, just lasting to deny Cirrus Des Aigles by a neck.
She could now defend her title in the Queen Anne Stakes where she would be set for a mouthwatering clash with Lockinge winner Canford Cliffs.
But Pierre-Yves Bureau, racing manager to owners the Wertheimer Brothers, is keen to let the dust settle before committing her to a run.
“She’s all right this morning, doing great and there are no problems,” Bureau said.
“We know nine furlongs is her maximum distance but she showed that she still likes to fight and she wanted to win the race. She is a very tough filly.
“We will take a few days to decide where we go next. We will see how the mare is and then make a decision.
“The most important thing is that she showed she is still capable of running to the same level as before.
“When you are going on for one more year, you never know how they will be when they go back racing, but she showed she still has the talent and the fighting spirit. This is the most important thing.
“I think it is too early to say where next. Royal Ascot is the next option, or she would wait for Deauville in the summer, but it is important to wait and see. We will make a decision in a few days.”
