Unbeaten colt Sea The Moon tests his Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe credentials at Hamburg on Sunday when he runs in the German Derby.
The Markus Klug-trained colt has impressively won two races this season and takes the next step against a strong field which includes the Geoffrey Chaucer, trained by Aidan O’Brien, and Godolphin’s Pinzolo.
The son of Sea The Stars will have a new rider as Christophe Soumillon has been preferred to regular jockey Andreas Helfenbein.
“He has been in very good form since he last won Cologne and we are very hopeful,” Klug said.
“This is a big test for him, but he has done everything well at home and will enjoy the extra furlong (200m).
“The owner wanted Christophe to ride him in the Germany Derby. We are lucky to have him as he is one of the best jockeys in the world.
“If all is well, we will then look at the Grosser Preis von Baden and then possibly the Arc.”
Klug is also represented in the race by Weltmacht, the mount of Tom Queally.
Charlie Appleby reports Pinzolo, who beat just two horses home in the Epsom Derby, in top trim for his German mission.
“He didn’t handle the hill at Epsom and James (Doyle) looked after him,” he said.
“He came out of the race well, so we decided to supplement him. He’s in good order.”
Geoffrey Chaucer finished last at Epsom, but he had previously finished an unlucky third in the Derby Trial at Leopardstown.
The son of Montjeu will again be partnered by Ryan Moore.
