After a strong first season in Hong Kong, trainer David Eustace is feeling optimistic as he embarks on his second year in one of the world’s most competitive racing environments.
Speaking on this week’s Straight Talk podcast, Eustace admitted he would have been satisfied with “somewhere in the 20s” for winners in his debut campaign. Instead, he trained 36, finishing 14th on the trainers’ premiership and surpassing his own expectations.
Racing resumes at Sha Tin on Sunday, where Eustace will saddle up four runners, including Victor The Winner, who faces champion Ka Ying Rising in the HKSAR Chief Executive Cup.
But it’s not only the established names that have him upbeat about the year ahead. Eustace is particularly encouraged by the younger and emerging horses in his stable, believing they can drive improvement in the 2025/26 season.
With a solid foundation now set, Eustace is looking to continue his upward trajectory and press further into the upper ranks of Hong Kong’s training ranks.
