Racing Forum, who are behind radical proposals to raise levy from bookmakers, are to promote their plans at a dinner at York racecourse on Friday.
The group, supported by owners, trainers, breeders, racecourses, journalists, punters and racegoers, will bring together racing’s political leaders with members of the betting industry to put their weight behind their ideas.
The occasion will provide a platform for MP Laurence Robertson, chairman of the All Parliamentary Racing Group, Andy Hornby, chief executive of Coral bookmakers, and Martin Cruddace, Betfair’s chief legal and regulatory officer, to put forward their views.
Racing Forum believes the existing levy be abolished as unworkable, unpopular and failing to produce sufficient finance for British Horseracing, which has become uncompetitive while other racing jurisdictions enjoy the benefits of the equivalent of a Tote monopoly.
