Nine races have been set down for Happy Valley on Wednesday night with good depth across the program.

Race 1. (20:40) Hawthorn Handicap (Class 5) 1000m
4 Notthesillyone (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. He has been freshened up since May 28 over 1200m here where he got back to near last in the run and was good late in the piece without threatening. Fast run 1000m, he’ll get back and launch late.
7 So Awesome (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a model of consistency and should be around the mark, as seen two weeks ago over 1200m when fourth, seemingly getting every chance but was far from disgraced in defeat. Like him back to 1000m and this is a winnable contest.
1 Colonel (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to 1000m and Class 5 grade after runs at Class 4 level where he has been poor, the latest run being two weeks back. He can run an import end race back to this level and back in trip.
Race 2. (21:10) Magnolia Handicap (Class 5) 1650m
6 Shinkansen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for me but again, it’s a race I have little interest in. He attempted to lead throughout at this track/distance last start and gave a solid kick from the front but just felt the pinch late. Front end control, he’ll take running down.
4 Windicator Family (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran second in the same race mentioned above that Shinkansen contested. He got off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat. Hard to knock the way he’s racing at present.
3 Courier Magic (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since May 14 at this track/distance when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat. Three tick over trials since have been encouraging, I say watch betting and see what it does.
Race 3. (21:40) Garden Handicap (Class 4) 1200m
2 California Deeply (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the way I am leaning. He ran here on May 28 at this trip when off speed and kept chasing with purpose to be quite good in defeat. If within range, he has the finale to win.
7 Flowing Riches (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has done little wrong in two career outings and commands respect. Both of those runs have come over 1200m at Sha Tin, running second on debut before a solid fourth last start. Tricky gate, but he has to be considered a leading contender.
3 Meowth (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to 1200m after racing over 1400m at Sha Tin last start. He got back in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he was good late. He’ll spot them a start but should be launching at the end.
Race 4. (22:10) Fa Po Handicap (Class 4) 1000m
1 Lean Master (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks hard to beat despite the break between runs. His last run was May 21 at this track/distance, getting a beaut run in transit and he gave nothing else a look in to win quite well. His confidence is up, he can go with it.
4 Lucky Twenty (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Sooboog that is on debut. He has had extensive trial work to get ready for start one, and for the most part hasn’t looked too bad to my eye so I say watch betting and see what it does despite the wide gate.
5 Power Summit (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Per Incanto gelding for David Eustace that is on debut. He hasn’t quite set the world on fire in his trial work but is bred to be handy and the stable can get them ready for a debut. Market watch.
Race 5. (22:40) Green Handicap (Class 4) 1650m
9 Smart City (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it. That win came on June 11 when a dominant track/distance winner, getting a beaut run in transit just off the speed before angling clear and he made a mess of them late. He has found winning form, he can win again.
1 Capital Legend (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a model of consistency and should be around the mark. He ran over this track/distance two weeks ago, getting the run of the race off the pace and presented to win but just found one better in Wrote A New Page. Hard to knock the way he’s racing.
3 Prince Alex (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Douglas Whyte trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Feb 26 at this track/distance when down the track behind Sturdy Ruby. Been given a good break and his trial work has been more than encouraging so watch betting.
Race 6. (23:10) Briar Handicap (Class 3) 1000m
1 Youthful Spirits (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the straight bat play. Mark Newnham trained gelding that resumed two weeks ago at this track/distance when on speed throughout and was there to put the race away but he couldn’t quite get there when second to Superb Capitalist. Better for the run, he appeals.
11 The All Out (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very, very interesting runner. Two year old that takes on the older horses, which is very rare for Hong Kong. 2/2 to start his career where he has been too good for them. He looks suited at the short course and right down in the weights, I say he has to be respected.
5 Healthy Healthy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes through the Superb Capitalist race mentioned above. He got off speed and chased with purpose in the straight but couldn’t quite finish his race off well enough but that said, he did find the line. I think he’s dangerous if the inside gate can be used to advantage.
Race 7. (23:45) Garden Handicap (Class 4) 1200m
2 Enjoy Golf (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for me. He is several weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Sha Tin. He attempted to lead throughout and gave a decent kick from the front but just felt the pinch late behind Star Satyr. Better suited at 1200m and he should be fine at Happy Valley. Hard to beat I say.
1 Denfield (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Danny Shum since racing at this track/distance. He got off speed and chased with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat I thought behind Golden Darci. Tick over trial was good and he’ll be strong late.
7 Happy Park (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has run well at the track/distance previously and comes back here. He ran over 1200m at Sha Tin last time when leading and tiring late behind Lucky My Way. That form reads well and he has a good racing style.
Race 8. (00:15) Begonia Handicap (Class 2) 1800m
Keen to be with 9 Cambridge (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). He is several weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when near the speed and presented to win but just found one better in Joy Of Spring. Tick over trials since have been quite strong and good lead that Purton steers.
1 Noisy Boy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since racing over the mile on the dirt at Sha Tin. He got back in the run and I am not sure he he was entirely happy on the dirt but he kept finding the line in defeat. Gate is tricky but like him back on the turf and he strikes a winnable race.
7 Woodfire Bro (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since racing over the mile here. He got back off the speed and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line and was good in defeat. Like him up in trip and is one for exotics.
Race 9. (00:50) Cotton Tree Handicap (Class 3) 1200m
11 Never Too Soon (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a throw at the stumps in the get out. David Hall trained gelding that was a sharp winner at this track/distance last time, giving them a start and a beating, producing very good change up speed to win and win well. Great track/distance record, he takes beating at a hopefully decent price.
2 Power Koepp (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is two weeks between runs since placing at this track/distance. He got into a decent spot in transit behind the speed and he tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when second to Dragon Four Seas. Leading contender.
1 Wings Of War (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran over this track/distance several weeks back where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up headway and was pretty good in defeat. He’ll spot them a start but be strong at the end.
