29/7/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Goodwood, King George Qatar Stakes day

Glorious Goodwood continues on Friday night for day four, headlined by the Qatar Stakes (1006m).

1 Reshoun (Bet Now: $7.50) has a very good 4000m+ record and is a horse in form. Game effort behind Coltrane on the Tuesday meeting at Royal Ascot before backing up on the Saturday and running second to Stratum. Had a month off and went to the two miles at Newbury where he bolted up. Creeping up in the relative weights but hard to knock the way he’s going.

2 Withold (Bet Now: $8.00) ran second in this race last year and looks to have been set for the race. He finished down the track behind Reshoun at Newbury in the race mentioned above, but he was only second up and five weeks between runs. Stable finds William Buick, he commands respect.

9 Hydroplane (Bet Now: $10.00) is a handy stayer that comes here in winning form. He is a dual performer, being a capable horse over the jumps. He bolted up over two miles at Chester last time under De Sousa, who remains on for this. Harder here, but think he can measure up.

1 Bayside Boy (Bet Now: $3.80) is back on track, and with that in mind, I am leaning his way. Too bad to be true fresh in the French 2000 Guineas behind Modern Games, a high class animal. He then went to the St James’s Palace and ran a beauty in defeat behind Coroebus. Back a fair bit in overall depth, he rates highly.

2 Berkshire Shadow (Bet Now: $3.90) should be around the mark for Andrew Balding. He is a high quality animal that is around the mark more often than not, but just can’t quite crack through. Close up in the St James’s Palace before going to Newmarket where I thought he was a touch disappointing given his promising runs prior. Hard to beat back to this level.

5 Rocchigiani (Bet Now: $6.00) is suited back up to the mile. Well bred colt from Germany who was close up in the German 2000 Guineas. He went to the Jersey at Royal Ascot when back to 1400m and was very good in defeat behind Noble Truth, a star in the making. Back up to the mile, a win wouldn’t shock.

11 Noble Point (Bet Now: $3.30) looks the one to beat for Charlie Appleby. Resumed as a gelding at Newmarket and gee there was plenty to like about the way he put them away, lumping 64kg and made a mess of them. He’s clearly got more to come and with weight relief, I’m clearly in his corner.

7 Shining Blue (Bet Now: $8.50) rises a fair bit in grade/depth, and is drawn wide…but beware the unbeaten horse. Didn’t beat much at Newcastle last time but I liked the way he moved clear late when asked for the effort. If he can overcome the gate, he’ll be around the mark.

10 Montassib (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect. He was very good in defeat in the Buckingham Palace at Royal Ascot and then the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket. Another that has a tricky gate, but he’s flying and will be hard to beat if the breaks can go his way.

Hoping for sustained speed to come to the fore in the shape of 6 Khaadem (Bet Now: $7.50). Impressive winner two back at Newmarket before dumping Jamie Spencer when the gates opened in the Kings Stand at Royal Ascot. These straight races, at this track, I want to be on a speed horse, and he is indeed that.

4 Equilateral (Bet Now: $9.00) is a stablemate of Khaadem that is a proven big time performer and I think is working up to a win. He was far from disgraced in the Kings Stand and in two subsequent runs, he has been close up. If he’s within range, he can take this out.

2 Acklam Express (Bet Now: $6.50) hasn’t won since his juvenile season but gee he’s racing well. He hasn’t raced since the Kings Stand at Royal Ascot when a $201 rank outsider but he ran the race of his life when third to Nature Strip. If he brings that here, surely he’ll be hard hard to beat.

8 Rebel’s Romance (Bet Now: $2.05) looks the one to beat. Charlie Appleby trained gelding that resumed in a four horse Listed race at Newmarket and he was sharp, making some handy horses look really ordinary, including Kemari. More to come you’d think and is another that coukd be on the Melbourne Cup radar.

9 Regal Reality (Bet Now: $6.50) is unknown at the trip but is racing like he will relish it. Ran over 2000m at Sandown last start where he was tardy to begin with and actually did a good job to get as close as he did. If the trip is fine, which I think it will be, then he really looks the only threat if the fav is off his game.

7 Kemari (Bet Now: $12.00) is another with potential Melbourne Cup aspirations. He ran second to Rebel’s Romance in the race mentioned above and for mine, the 2400m was just on the short side. If this was 2800m+, I could have him on top. Doubt he wins, but a must for exotics.

1 Bolt Action (Bet Now: $4.00) on top. This juvenile has had two career outings. Created a decent impression when spanking them on debut at Leicester before going to the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot where he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Little Big Bear. That form has to read well for this.

6 California Gem (Bet Now: $6.50) is really starting to put it together. She has won her past two, scoring a narrow win two back at Ripon before a dominant display at Beverley where she had the suck run behind the speed and drew clear late. Racing like 1200m suits, she’s a key threat.

3 Rumstar (Bet Now: $14.00) is one I can entertain for wider exotics. Forgive his last start effort at Sandown where he blew the start and cost himself any chance of being in the finish behind Rocket Rodney. 1200m should be fine and is drawn the right part of the track.

10 Omniscient (Bet Now: $3.00) goes pretty good and I think he can make it two on the bounce. Not sure he beat much at Yarmouth last time to break the maiden but it was his first look at 2000m and he savaged the line to win by a space. Off that, 2253m here is fine, he maps ideally…he’s the pony for me in the get out.

5 Caius Chorister (Bet Now: $5.00) is the interesting one. She has spanked them her past two over 2400m at Epsom, admittedly, against nothing, but 19 lengths and 12 lengths respectively are still big margins so she does create interest and is hard in the market. Key threat.

6 Paradias (Bet Now: $17.00) is a knockout chance. Impressive winner two back at Yarmouth before going to Haydock where he was near the back of the pack and couldn’t get involved when down the track behind Hamaki. If he can jump clean and be within range, he can be dangerous.

BEST BET: Race Three Number 11 Noble Point

NEXT BEST: Race Seven Number 10 Omniscient

LONG SHOT: Race Four Number 6 Khaadem
