The Goodwood Carnival continues on Wednesday night, headlined by the Sussex Stakes (1609m) at Group l level.
Race 1. (22:50) Unibet '15 To Go' Handicap 2412m
I like the look of 9 Kolisi (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) for William Haggas with Tom Marquand to steer. Spanked them in a 2000m maiden at Salisbury last time out and though he didn’t beat much, what impressed me was how strong he was to the line and through it, suggesting 2400m here will be ideal.
6 Nagano (Bet Now: $4.40 TOP ODDS) comes here with fresh legs, over a month between runs since contesting the King George V at Royal Ascot where he was luckless in the straight, getting badly hampered by eventual winner Surefire. That form does look quite strong for this.
3 Fabilis (Bet Now: $17.00 TOP ODDS) hasn’t exactly set the world on fire this time in but his best is certainly good enough. Down the track two back in the Italian Derby before a solid effort at Ascot when running second. Showed good promise as a juvenile last season so keen to see how he goes.
Race 2. (23:25) Oak Tree Stakes (G3) 1408m
William Haggas has won two of the last three runnings of this race and I think he can win it again, this time via 10 Sacred (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS), who resumes. Brilliant winner fresh last time in before a midfield effort in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. Spelled, I think her best sees her win this.
17 Vadream (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) is flying for Charlie Fellowes and is busting to win. Placed at Group lll level at Royal Ascot before going to York where she was gallant in defeat. Deserves a Stakes win and she gets a great chance here despite the race looking to have some depth.
8 Onassis (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) is a stablemate of Vadream who should love the rise to 1400m given she is a proven performer at the track/distance and the two runs back have come at 1200m, a trip just short of her best. Got upside t
Race 3. (00:00) Markel Molecomb Stakes (G3) 1005m
Hard to ignore 6 Fearby (Bet Now: $2.50 TOP ODDS). Talented juvenile that really made a mess of them at Sandown around a month ago, winning by five lengths, and the further the race went, the larger the margin was. He looks a real pro and the 1000m here should be no issue for him. The one to beat.
5 Chipotle (Bet Now: $4.60 TOP ODDS) doesn’t want the rain, but I think he’s going really well. Impressive winner of the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot before having no luck at a vital stage at Newbury. He’s got more to come. Just not sure he will be effective if this track gets a drop of rain.
9 Mojomaker (Bet Now: $17.00 TOP ODDS) is the SP horse of this race given you’re getting double figures for him but last start was around $4 at Sandown when second to Fearby. Purely off that run, he can’t turn the tables, but if you’re an SP profile fan, this guy will jump off the page.
Race 4. (00:35) Sussex Stakes (G1) 1609m
9 Poetic Flare (Bet Now: $2.05 TOP ODDS) just has to hold his form and I think he’s a good thing. He won the 2000 Guineas, then proved that was no fluke when bolting up in the St James Palace, producing the biggest winning margin in that race in 30 years. He should be winning.
11 Snow Lantern (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) is a rising star in her own right. Thought she was excellent in defeat at Royal Ascot in the Coronation before taking out the Group l Falmouth at Newmarket. Would need to improve to beat Poetic Flare, but no reason why she can’t I’d suggest.
4 Order Of Australia (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS) probably lacks the class of some of these, but he is tough, he will be on speed and giving his all. Bounced back to wining form last time with an impressive win at Curragh. If the rain comes, that will be a worry for him, but he will give a sight on speed.
Race 5. (01:10) EBF Fillies' Conditions Stakes 1005m
2 Canonized (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) looks a smart filly for William Haggas and I think she can continue her winning ways. Was keen in the run and held up at times last time out at Windsor but loved the way she closed off late to get the job done. Proven at the track/distance and will take beating.
I like 3 Flotus (Bet Now: $3.75 TOP ODDS) as a horse. Brilliant debut winner which ensured she was hard in the market for the Albany at Royal Ascot where she failed to handle the mud. Then went to Newmarket and was far from disgraced in defeat in a good form race. Her best is more than capable.
6 La Feile (Bet Now: $9.50 TOP ODDS) comes here off the back of a debut win at Beverley and I thought there was a bit of merit to her win. 400m out she was in trouble but she surged like a nice horse and finished best. Clearly a harder assignment but she’s one that can run a positive race at odds.
Race 6. (01:45) British Ebf Premier Fillies' Handicap 1990m
7 Achelois (Bet Now: $2.80 TOP ODDS) on top. Progressive filly for Andrew Balding that ran at Ascot a tick under three weeks ago when bolting up and seemingly had plenty in reserve in an impressive effort. She will take a power of beating against this lot.
9 Percy’s Pride (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) is heading in the right direction. Couple of wins on the bounce for this filly, winning on the all weather at Chelmsford before going to Ascot and translating her good form to the turf. This will be a good test for her but I think she can measure up.
5 Seattle Rock (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) should be suited up in trip and noteworthy gets Ryan Moore to steer. Far from disgraced last time out at Windsor in what looked a tidy race on paper. I think the extra ground will suit her and she won’t mind a drop of rain hitting the track.
Race 7. (02:20) World Pool Handicap 1408m
Going to have a throw at the stumps in the shape of 4 Canagat (Bet Now: $21.00 TOP ODDS). Showed promise when he was with Archie Watson before a failed stint in France. Returns to the UK for a new yard and noteworthy that two of his wins have come on wet ground, so if the rain comes, can have a 1×3 speck on him at a big price.
2 Sunset Breeze (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) is bursting to win one. Looked the winner last time out at Newcastle on the Synthetic but was nabbed on the peg after wanting to hang around under pressure. Produced good figures last year and looks to be getting near that mark again.
14 Golden Force (Bet Now: $SP.00 TOP ODDS) showed good promise last year and looked to be heading in the right direction. Jury was out this prep but I reckon he’s back on track after a last start second in Leicester in a solid race. If he improves off that effort, he will be around the mark.
