The iconic Royal Ascot Carnival begins this Tuesday, headlined by a stack of top class racing, notably the Queen Anne Stakes (1609m) and the St Jame’s Palace (1603m).

Race 1. (23:30) THE QUEEN ANNE STAKES (Group 1) 1609m
From what I can see, this will be a sit/sprint, and that set up was ideal for 3 Docklands (Bet Now: $SP.00) last year. Super first up winner before going to the Champions Mile at Sha Tin where he ran out of his skin in defeat behind My Wish. Proven performer, he’ll stalk the speed and if you told me a few days ago I’d be keen on a Mark Zahra ridden horse, I’d say nope, dreaming. But his tail is up after Eagle Farm on Saturday and he is a big stage rider.
6 Notable Speech (Bet Now: $SP.00) failed in this race last year and looks to be here for redemption. He was an impressive winner of the Lockinge last time, producing a dynamic change up speed. I do think he’s much better around a bend vs straight course, but he clearly commands respect.
5 More Thunder (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the one on the up. He ran second to Notable Speed in the Lockinge, working home strongly from off speed when second. Good upside/improvement to come, he’ll be strong late and is a definite threat.
Race 2. (00:05) THE COVENTRY STAKES (Group 2) 1207m
I like 5 Confucius (Bet Now: $SP.00). Aidan O’Brien trained colt that was a last start winner at Naas in a maiden. Did he beat much? No, but the manner in which he went about it was just so dynamic. He’s destined for better races IMO and confident he can measure up here.
15 Night In Vegas (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a clear threat. 2/2 to start his career, a track/distance winner on debut before going to Goodwood when on speed and was trucking before being clicked up and away he went to win and win well. Beware the unbeaten horse.
16 Royal Heritage… (Bet Now: $SP.00) not sure what he beat on debut at Hamilton but the manner in which he went about it when clicked up was dynamic and impressive. Good test here, clearly harder, but he looks a likely prospect.
Race 3. (00:40) King Charles III Stakes (Group 1) 1005m
To me, this is simple. If 9 Overpass (Bet Now: $SP.00) is near his best, he just wins. This is not a deep contest and for mine, 1000m down the straight here just looks perfect, similar to that of Nature Strip from a few years ago. He ran super in the TJ Smith and go back to The Everest, he pushed Ka Ying Rising hard. That’s good enough for this.
8 Night Raider (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect. He gave them a start and a beating to win the Temple at Haydock, getting better as the race went on to win well. He’ll be strong at the end. Just depends what sort of start he concedes.
Easy to do, but are we dismissing 13 Asfoora (Bet Now: $SP.00) too easily? She has been dreadful in two runs back, but she needed the run first up and then at Haydock, I think the track was a too shifty. If she brings her absolute best, she can well and truly be dangerous.
Race 4. (01:20) THE ST JAMES'S PALACE STAKES (Group 1) 1603m
I am leaning towards 2 Gstaad (Bet Now: $SP.00) in what should be an epic contest. He and Bow Echo had an epic battle in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket before Gstaad put pay to an average bunch in the Irish 2000 Guineas. He’s a special colt, he seems to be getting better with racing and for mine is primed to run an absolute belter.
1 Bow Echo (Bet Now: $SP.00) clearly commands respect. He was first up at Newmarket and the manner in which he put away Gstaad was something else. But, the argument is there that this guy was fit, ready to go, whereas Gstaad perhaps was carrying condition. Whatever the case, the win was stunning and he has been kept on ice with this race in mind.
5 Puerto Rico (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran fourth in the French 2000 Guineas at Longchamp. He was a well backed favourite but didn’t quite fire on the soft track and was a tad on the plain side. Showed good promise last season, he’s one for exotics.
Race 5. (02:00) THE ASCOT STAKES (Heritage Handicap) 4014m
4 Reaching High (Bet Now: $SP.00) is here for redemption. He should have won this race last year but had zero luck trying to get clear air and pretty much went around like it was a barrier trial. Hasn’t raced since then, has been set for the race and Willie Mullins has an amazing record. Plus, in the Royal colours…clear intent.
16 Puturhandstogether (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the Chester Cup. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never a threat, his finale was more than satisfactory. Trip should be fine, in a good camp, upside…in the mix for sure.
10 Defiantly (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a working progress for Joseph O’Brien and given Australian Bloodstock own…could he be a contender for the first Tuesday in November with a win here? His overall record isn’t too flash but the stable are very astute, he looks as though he’ll stay strongly…not dismissing.
Race 6. (02:35) THE WOLFERTON STAKES (Listed Race) 2004m
9 Haatem (Bet Now: $SP.00) won this race last year and I think history could well repeat. He did enough I though when resuming at Goodwood, sitting off speed and made up decent headway without threatening. Fitter, he likes racing here, good upside, not dismissing him.
15 Wimbledon Hawkeye (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run at Sandown when down the track behind Ombudsman, getting off speed and whacked late in a race which had far more depth vs what he races here. He’ll be strong late. Just depends what sort of start he concedes.
8 Ghostwriter (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. He hasn’t raced since the Hardwicke last year at this Carnival when far from disgraced in defeat behind Rebel’s Romance. Switched stables, long time off but has class so watch betting.
Race 7. (03:10) THE COPPER HORSE HANDICAP STAKES 2847m
Pretty keen here on 10 Valiancy (Bet Now: $SP.00). There is a lot to like about this guy IMO. Not sure he beat much at Hamilton last time out but the manner in which he put them away and how strong he was to the line was impressive. Confident he can measure up and win again.
8 Gamrai (Bet Now: $SP.00) will land on speed and look to give his all, as seen over 2400m at Newmarket last start. He led and tried hard but just felt the pinch late in the piece behind. Good racing style, he’s dangerous if he gets front end control.
4 Daiquiri Bay (Bet Now: $SP.00) won the race mentioned above at Newmarket. He stalked Gamrai throughout before being clicked up and was strong to the line in winning. 2800m should be no issue, I say he commands respect.
