The 2021 Royal Ascot Carnival continues on Wednesday night, headlined by a crack edition of the Prince Of Wales (2000m), featuring dual Queen Elizabeth winner Addeybb.
Prince of Wales’s Stakes 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Prince of Wales’s Stakes
Race 1. (23:30) Queen Mary Stakes 1005m
15 Nymphadora (Bet Now: $13.00) on top in what looks a very intriguing edition of the Queen Mary. Finished behind Desert Dreamer on debut before going to the Marygate at York where she looked to move very well and was an impressive winner. She looks a very imposing type that will love a fast run 1000m and for mine is the way to go in a tricky race.
19 Twilight Gleaming (Bet Now: $3.25) has the Wesley Ward factor and has to be respected. She ran in a 1000m maiden at Belmont back in early May and she spanked her rivals, winning by over seven lengths, with sustained speed coming to the fore. I think if Wesley Ward is to win during the Carnival, it could well be this filly, and the track conditions are ideal.
7 Desert Dreamer (Bet Now: $12.00) does command respect. Stuart Williams trained filly that is 2/2 to start her career. Hasn’t exactly beaten a great deal, but all you can do is beat what is put in front of you and that she has done in good style. Needs to improve on her form, but no reason why she can’t.
Race 2. (00:05) Queen's Vase 2847m
14 Wordsworth (Bet Now: $3.25) looks the most obvious. Aidan O’Brien trained galloper that was an impressive winner fresh at Curragh. Then went to Navan when near the speed throughout and battled on strongly when second. The win fresh was on a firm deck so the dry track here is no issue, he’s in the right camp and should love the rise in trip.
6 Kemari (Bet Now: $7.00) is a nice type for Charlie Appleby. Not sure he beat a great deal at Yarmouth last time but he was arrogant in getting the job done from near the speed, winning by six lengths and did it with something in hand. Harder here, but he’s heading in the right direction.
2 Benaud (Bet Now: $15.00) looks a working progress for Joseph O’Brien. Strong returning win at Naas I thought in what looked a competitive race. Knuckled down nicely when asked and was holding his rivals on the line. Stable loves to target these these kind of races so giving this guy respect.
Race 3. (00:40) Duke Of Cambridge 1609m
I thought around $3 all in was luxurious for 2 Lady Bowthorpe (Bet Now: $2.80). I’m quite keen on her chances here. Dominant win fresh at Newmarket before going to the Lockhinge at Newbury where she ran out of her skin when second to a star in Palace Pier. She only has to hold that form here and she’ll be too good.
3 Queen Power (Bet Now: $6.00) looks a key threat. Ran second to Lady Bowthorpe at Newmarket before going to York where she took on four rivals, somewhat moderate rivals to what she faces here, but that aside, she made an absolute mess of them. Hard fit, in form and will be strong late.
Good test for 6 Double Or Bubble (Bet Now: $9.00) but she is a filly that is in form for Chris Wall, who is looking for his first Royal Ascot winner. This filly didn’t beat much when resuming with a win at York but she did it in good style and the stable have had James Doyle booked for this race for a while. Not sure she wins, but a first four threat.
Race 4. (01:20) Prince Of Wales Stakes 2004m
I’m keen on 1 Armory (Bet Now: $4.50). It wasn’t a strong field he beat up at Chester, but gee he was dominant and won with such class, his first run his very game second in the Cox Plate. I am looking for a horse with a turn of foot and I think he does have the turn of foot to beat Lord North.
3 Lord North (Bet Now: $3.25) is a world class animal for the Gosden camp that hasn’t raced since bolting up in the Dubai Turf during the Meydan Carnival, where he looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted. Proven Ascot performer and is another horse that has sharp change up speed.
6 Audarya (Bet Now: $12.00) is a fascinating runner. James Fanshaw trained mare that hasn’t raced since scoring a dominant win in the Breeders Cup F&M in the US. William Buick has been booked for this ride for a while now, so that signals intent to me. Knockout chance for sure.
Race 5. (02:00) Royal Hunt Cup 1609m
9 Grove Ferry (Bet Now: $12.00) looks a nice type for Andrew Balding. Thought it was a brilliant win at Chester last time given he was back in the ruck and held up for a few strides before eventually getting clear and charging to get up and win. The form out of that has been super with several winners to come out of it already and he’ll be strong late here.
I like 6 Brunch (Bet Now: $13.00) each way at a price. Thought he was good late fresh in the Lincoln before a narrow defeat at York when closing off nicely from off the speed. He’ll love a fast run mile here and drawn where he is, I think that suits because traditionally, towards the outside fence is usually the spot to be with these big fields.
2 Haqeeqy (Bet Now: $7.50) is a key threat. Impressive winner fresh before racing here. Probably hit the front a tad too early and was left a sitting shot late when fourth. He is much better with a bunny to chase and waited with, so hopefully that does eventuate for his supporters.
Race 6. (02:35) Windsor Castle Stakes 1005m
I think the Wesley Ward hold the cards here. At the better odds, I’m with 26 Golden Bell (Bet Now: $9.00). Like the stablemate, debuted at Keeneland and was such an impressive winner from on speed. Her piece of work at that track recently was sharp and drawn wide, I think she’s better suited than the stablemate.
That stablemate is 28 Ruthin (Bet Now: $3.25), who does get Frankie to steer hence why she is the preferred choice of the Ward pair in the market. Debuted with an arrogant win at Keeneland and ran sharp time in doing. From what I saw in the trackwork, Ruthin didn’t work as well as Golden Bell. But, have to respect the camp.
13 Ernie’s Valentine (Bet Now: $19.00) is an interesting runner. Didn’t beat much when debuting with a win at Leicester but he was strong late in getting the job done and the market suggested he was ready to go, into $5.50 from $7.50. Clearly a harder assignment here, but he’ll be strong at the end.
Race 7. (03:10) Kensington Palace Stakes 1602m
Bit of a throw at the stumps here in the shape of 18 Miss Mulligan (Bet Now: $41.00). Most of her recent runs have come at 2000m+, the latest being a 2400m race at Windsor where she stayed on pretty well when third. This looks like it will be a fast run mile so I want to be on something that will be strong late and this girl will be.
5 Dreamloper (Bet Now: $5.50) isn’t all there upstairs but she does have the engine under the hood. Ed Walker trained galloper that ran over this track/distance last time out and worked to the line strongly when second to Lights On. Meets that horse here, but I think a big track and more genuine tempo will help her cause.
8 Mostly (Bet Now: $5.50) can be an improver here. Impressive winner fresh at Kempton Park before going to Nottingham when hard in the market but didn’t really fire a shot and was plain. Trainer and rider stated post race that she didn’t handle the track, so perhaps a bigger track here and getting Frankie to steer will spark improvement.
