Race 1. (23:30) Queen Mary Stakes 1005m
Sustained speed to come to the fore via 10 Love Reigns (Bet Now: $3.60) for Wesley Ward. Not sure what she beat on debut at Keeneland, and it was over 1100m, but good lord the arrogance of the win was something else in leading throughout. Usually with these Wesley Ward youngsters, they fly over 900m-1000m and will be suspect at the end when it comes to Ascot. But that 1100m run under the belt tells me that 1000m for her here will be fine.
3 Dramatised (Bet Now: $3.50) looks a smart filly. Debuted down the straight at Newmarket and despite doing a bit wrong when let down, the change up speed was there for to see and she won with class. Runner up has bolted in on a couple of occasions since so the form reads well and draws out, so she’ll get clear air from the outset.
6 Katey Kontent (Bet Now: $11.00) is 2/2 to start her career. She wandered about a bit under pressure at Windsor last start but she still smashed them and ran very fast time for juveniles. She is doing a bit wrong, but she does have good talent and great early toe, so she’s a threat.
Race 2. (00:05) Queen's Vase 2847m
Going the way of 2 Anchorage (Bet Now: $7.50) for Aidan O’Brien. He resumed at the Curragh over 2000m and was completely flat footed when the sprint went on around the turn. He could have turned it up but he ran through the pain barrier and was actually pretty good to the line and through it. He’s screaming of a horse wanting further and stable has a fab record in the race.
4 Eldar Eldarov (Bet Now: $3.50) has to rate highly. Lot of quality about his debut win at Nottingham as a juvenile. Spelled, resumed on the Synthetic at Newcastle where he found the outside fence in the straight (A1 ground), and did have a battle to put them away, but once he did, he drew right away late and was impressive. He’s hard to beat.
3 Baltic Bird (Bet Now: $10.00) is a definite winning chance. Strong all the way win at Yarmouth last start. He was there to be run down but he found under pressure and really, the last 100-200m, he was edging clear, which is a good sign. Frankie jumps on and I think the trip will be no issue.
Race 3. (00:40) Prince of Wales's Stakes (Group 1) 2004m
Cracking race with several key winning hopes. Dry ground, Japanese…it’s a good recipe for success so with that in mind, I am leaning towards 3 Shahryar (Bet Now: $4.50). He comes here off the back of a win in the Sheema Classic at Meydan where he was given an absolute peach by Demuro and got the job done. He does seem more effective at 2200m-2400m, but the Japanese are giants of world racing and especially on firm decks, they rarely run poorly.
Cox Plate winner 4 State Of Rest (Bet Now: $7.50) commands respect. Strong first up winner before going to the Tatts Gold Cup at Curragh where he got shuffled back a bit further back than what connections would have liked but he found the line strongly when third. Some are underestimating him but what is becoming apparent is that getting into a fight with him, you’ll come out of it second best.
Dismiss 2 Lord North (Bet Now: $8.00) at your peril. Dominant win two back in the Dubai Duty Free before a fourth in the Tatts Gold Cup where he was a touch on the plain side but far from disgraced in defeat. Proven big time performer on this stage and the world stage, so he’s a definite winning chance.
Race 4. (01:20) Duke of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2) 1609m
I think 5 Mother Earth (Bet Now: $4.40) can bounce back. I’m very forgiving of her last start down the track effort in the Lockinge behind Baaeed. They rode her too warm and it backfired, finishing down the track. She’s best when ridden with a sit and she gets a set up here where that should eventuate, and at her best, she is the one to beat.
1 Saffron Beach (Bet Now: $3.70) commands respect given she does have Group l winning form over several of these, including Mother Earth. Had one run last prep, which came at Group l level at Meydan when a solid fourth. Back to Mares grade, class, has the form…she’s got to be in the mix.
2 Sibila Spain (Bet Now: $7.00) is the unknown. Quality French mare who comes into this off the back of a Group ll win at Saint Cloud where she produced the good in a change of tactics. I think the straight track will suit her and I think you always have to respect the French at this Carnival.
Race 5. (02:00) Royal Hunt Cup 1609m
As is the case with these races, it is an absolute lottery. I want to be on something closing off, and one that will close at the end is 24 Legend Of Dubai (Bet Now: $5.50). It was an impressive return from him at Newmarket. He tracked the speed before angling towards the inside of the pack and gee he was bolting under Atzeni. Just a matter of pushing the button and once he did, away he went. Proven at 2400m, so if it’s a hard mile, tick, and first up, he showed he can be effective in a sit/sprint.
6 Symbolize (Bet Now: $8.50) brings very strong form into this, with the name Aldaary in there on a couple of occasions, and I’d say he’s behind Baaeed only as the best horse Shadwell has, so that is A1 form. Strong second at Thirsk when resuming, proven at the track here and drawn out, with the claim, he’ll only run well.
28 Via Serendipity (Bet Now: $41.00) will be strong at the end for Charlie Fellowes. Had a dream run in transit at Sandown last start and what I liked was the ticker he showed. He was there to be beaten late but he surged, found and on the line was safely holding his rivals. Harder here, but he’s a winning chance for sure.
Race 6. (02:35) Windsor Castle Stakes 1005m
I’m going with 20 Wodao (Bet Now: $15.00) each way. Donnacha O’Brien trained colt that gave them an absolute spanking at Navan last time and what I liked was his change up speed when asked to go. He exploded between the 400-200m and the race was over. I think his speed will suit this track and each way, he’ll run a beauty.
12 Little Big Bear (Bet Now: $2.60) is regarded by Aidan O’Brien as one of the better juveniles in his stable, which is a fair wrap given how much depth he has got. This bloke was a narrow second on debut before making amends over 1000m at Naas. The query I have with him is that he is doing a bit wrong, but clearly has a big engine unde the hood and will be strong late.
23 Union Court (Bet Now: $26.00) looks the clear pick of the fillies in this race. 2/2 to statr her career for Ed Walker, winning on debut at Leicester before repeating the dose in good style at Chepstow. Clearly this is a harder assignment, but hard to knock an unbeaten filly. First four contender.
Race 7. (03:10) Kensington Palace Stakes 1602m
Get the dartboard out and hope of the best. But, I do think 17 Haziya (Bet Now: $4.80) is the pony to beat. She was a sharp first up winner at Leopardstown before going to the Curragh when a solid third in a good race. Gets right down in the weights, she’ll be strong late and is an each way bet in the get out.
13 State Occasion (Bet Now: $11.00) has returned in good order. Resumed on the all weather at Chelsmford and surged to the line in a very encouraging return. Has run well at Ascot previously, she seemingly has come back as well as ever, asnd with a cold ride from the gate, I can see her launching late.
10 Don’t Tell Claire (Bet Now: $21.00) is a proven performer at the track. Resumed over this track/distance where she just looked like in need of the run. Presented to threaten but just felt the pinch late. Better for the run under the belt, and with a win at the track, she’s a knockout hope.
