1/8/2019 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Woodbine

Ric Chapman, who following 6 winners from the 8 races which included 2 x trifectas last week at Woodbine, is hoping to continue that winning form here for the Thursday morning Woodbine meet out of Canada.

Race 1 1700m Turf – App 8:45am

Small, compact field here and most of them have legitimate claims. PIPER’S LEGACY is in form and despite big weight should be right in the fray here. Drawn to get a cushy run. SHE’S GOT FIRE is in a strong stable and one that can produce a stayer. Will sit off them and come with a powerful charge. Have in your numbers as the blinkers go on here. NOTICE ME is in well at the weights and has the top rider at Woodbine to steer. Bound to be on pace for most of the way. These look to fight the trifecta spots out.

Race 2 1300m Turf – App 9:15am

Probably fair to say most keen racing followers will be on AIRY FAIRY here. She has talent but needs a hot pace. And probably gets close to that here in a race that is a few lengths weaker than her past few runs. Ran 4th in tougher race last start on turf. FOXXY BELLE starts for the champion of claiming, Norm McKnight here for the first time. Has had time to get ready for this and is a last start winner at this level. If she handles the turf, she should be in the numbers. DREAMIN ON A CLOUD is the baby of the field but recent works suggest she is a player and the top rider has chosen to partner her here.

Race 3 1700m Synthetic – App 9:45am

The big question is how far will the jocks let CONQUEST ELIMUNATR lead by here. He isn’t overly strong but horses when left alone on the pace can find down the running. And from the inside gate here he will dart to the front and I think take a lot of catching as this is a weak field. CRUMLIN NIGHT is once again a player. He goes well this grade and made ground late to just miss last start. Is very fit. GIANT MINE won this level then went up a grade or two and was safely handled last start. Can place now back in right grade.

Race 4 1700m Turf – App 10:13am

It will be interesting to see who leads here as a few can. DEESSE NIKE is a nice enough mare suited to this trip. She will drop in hoping there is a speed battle early. And BELLA FIGURA will almost certainly be in that battle if there is one. She likes to get to the front and rider is a very good judge of pace. Led and compounded late in tougher race last start passed near home by MODUS OPERANDI. She likes to run on and should be fitter for that outing so looms large.

Race 5 1000m Allowance Turf – App 10:45am

The old boy, 11YO STORMY RUSH looked like a spring chicken last start when he sat behind the hectic pace and exploded late. This is harder but what’s in his old favour again is the pace will be a cracker. Don’t dismiss. HITTERS PARK does look the one though. He’s having his 2nd run here and should be much fitter. Was narrowly beaten and that experience will do him the world of good. WESTERN TROUBLE carries the most weight here but on his day he is still the best horse and will be rattling home if he gets cover, which he should, behind the cracking pace here. May find it a tad short though.

Race 6 1700m Mdn Synthetic – App 11:15am

Speed, when it is on its own, is a lethal weapon and SKIPPED HIM looks the only genuine speed in this. He lobs in front and if nothing goes and eyeballs him mid race he looks the one to run down. Led and rolled last start but was taken on. Drawn to lead here. SEEMEE has wheels late and will be doing best work at the end. BIG HAMBONE ran terrific last start when a closing 3rd. That run should bring him right on and he’s a genuine player here because he can finish.

Race 7 1700m Mdn Synthetic – App 11:45am

CAUSE FOR ALARM took to the lead last start on the grass and bobbed for a while but in the end, he ran out of gas and the class was too strong. Everything has been flipped here. Easier race, back on the Tapeta synthetic and it’s shorter. Should have tightened up too so appeals this time. METADATA is still new to this whole thing but gets out to a trip here which should suit as he’s shown a tendency to want to run on. Is the younger brother of stakes winner Vanish and the stakes placed filly Evangeline’s Hope both of whom would run well this trip. SEAL TEAM TWO has the whiz kid Kaz Kimura on top here and is ready to run a big race.

Race 8 1000m Turf – App 12:15pm

MOON OVER VICTORIA has placed twice this season but connections are trying something new bringing her to the turf here. Has plugged on but this could be a game changer for her and she might finish like a train. JUDITH CAN was not at all comfortable on Woodbine debut last start on synthetic. No kick back in her eyes here on the turf so may improve and be in the finish. PIRANO won first up last season and resumes in this. Will sit just off what looks like a fast early, but weak late speed up front. Watch market but the street corner tip is all over her with no weight on her back.
