Swettenham Stud’s early investment in Wootton Bassett as a sire of sires has received a timely boost, with his Group 1-winning son Wooded (IRE) producing his first Australian-bred winner on Sunday.
The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained gelding Crank, racing in the Myracehorse colours, delivered on market expectations when starting favourite in the 1000m maiden at Terang and securing victory.

Ridden by Jamie Mott, Crank finished strongly to score by a length and a half in an impressive debut performance.
The gelding was purchased for $200,000 at the Karaka Book 1 Sale from the Woburn Farm draft by TAB Racing, having earlier been secured for $60,000 by Woburn Farm from the Crossley Thoroughbreds draft at the Inglis Great Southern Sale, marking him as a successful pinhook prospect.
Wooded is scheduled to return to Swettenham Stud this spring, where his service fee has been set at $16,500.
