With Inglis saying ‘Buy the Horse You Dream About’ at the Classic Yearling Sale, it’s all eyes on the cream of the Inglis Sales graduates in the $2m Inglis Millennium at Royal Randwick.
As principal event of the $12m Inglis Race Series, and in tight betting, it’s the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Plagiarism who’s $5.50 co-favourite with nation-wide wagering agencies.
Freshened from a first-race third placing in the $1m Golden Gift and with Tim Clark on 56.5kg in Gate 10, he heads a full-field of 16 runners in this Restricted Listed 2YO event of 1100 metres.
From the family of Victorian Derby winner Warning and dual Group 1 sprinter Mariamia, he was a $120,000 2025 Premier Yearling by Written By from the winning Snitzel mare Profiterole.
Also firming into $5.50 favouritism is the Chris Waller trained Fireball on 56.5kg with James McDonald from Gate 3, having been a class Rosehill 1100m winner for the James Herron partnership.
A $460,000 buy at the 2025 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, she’s by Snitzel from the family of Group 2 Countess Christie, Thumbsucker with her Dundeel half-sister selling as Lot 614 on Tuesday.
Now at $8 and having drawn the outside rail, Calamari Ring took out the Inglis Banner over 1000m at Flemington for trainer Ciaron Maher, and is now the ride of Jason Collett carrying 54.5kg.
With her Rubick half-sister selling at the Premier Yearling Sale, she was a $140,000 2024 Great Southern Weanling by Street Boss from the close family of NZ Champion 2YO Warhorse.
Also at $8 is the Ben, Will and JD Hayes trained Seymour 1100 winner Jacaranda for Tom Sherry in 6, and is a Home Affairs half-brother to sire Artorius, being a $300,000 Inglis Easter Yearling.
Eagle Farm based Chris and Corey Munce have their Gold Coast 1000m winner Star of Jamaica at $9 for Zac Lloyd in 5, and by the 2021 Millennium winner Profiteer was a $85,000 Classic Yearling.
Rounding out an action packed wagering contest is the Blue Diamond Preview C&G winner Alibaba at $12 for Craig Newitt from Gate 14, trained by Cranbourne trainers Ken and Kasey Keys.
A $115,000 2025 Classic Yearling graduate by Alabama Express, and with his Lucky Vega half-brother selling on Sunday, Day 1 at Riverside, he’s a brother to the stakes placed winner Strideaway.
And with the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale being staged on 8-10 February at Riverside Stables, it’s the fastest growing success story of the Southern Hemisphere’s early-season auctions.
“The Classic doesn’t need to be ‘sold’ to breeders or vendors as it’s a sale that they want to be involved,” said Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch, “the quality improves year after year.’’
“To have 113 individual sires and 74 individual vendors, it’s a sale that attracts a very cosmopolitan buying bench and we feel having a well-diversified catalogue is particularly important.”
“It’s so represented that it’s a very pleasing outcome with a 798 lot catalogued being aided by 14 first season sires as Anamoe, Artorius, Best of Bordeaux, Daumier, Diatonic, Ellsberg, Hitotsu.”
“The success of graduates was evident when Revengeance was the second consecutive winner of the $1m Golden Gift to come from the Classic Sale, following the win of North England in 2024.”
“The past two winners of the $2m Inglis Millennium are also Classic graduates in Fully Lit and Rivellino, while the Classic Sale continues to attract the biggest names in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong.”
