Champion Queensland stallion Spirit Of Boom has died suddenly at the age of 18 at Eureka Stud, leaving a major void in the Queensland breeding ranks.
Eureka Stud principal Scott McAlpine confirmed the son of Sequalo suffered an internal rupture and could not be saved.
Spirit Of Boom carved out an outstanding legacy at stud, siring 32 stakes winners from 745 runners, including Group 1 winner Jonker.
McAlpine also revealed that Jonker will return to Eureka Stud this season from Aquis to help fill the gap left by his sire’s passing.
On the racetrack, Spirit Of Boom was renowned for his toughness and longevity, reaching the peak of his powers as a six-year-old.
He captured two Group 1 victories for trainer Tony Gollan, winning the William Reid Stakes and the Doomben 10,000.
