It is little wonder Zac Lloyd has a soft spot for the Michael Freedman-trained Insurrection

Zac Lloyd has declared Insurrection his favourite horse after maintaining his perfect record on the talented sprinter with an all-the-way victory in The Warra.

Not only is Insurrection the galloper who secured Lloyd last season’s Sydney apprentices’ title, he has also managed to win every time the young gun has been in the saddle.

“I’m four from four on him now. He’s a special horse to me,” Loyd said.

“His (heavy track) form was a bit unknown, but it was early days and he wasn’t the horse he is now.

“I was a bit wary of how he would go but he did that no worries today.

“That is probably the best I’ve ever felt him, so I was very happy.”

With six scratchings taking much of the speed out of Saturday’s Kembla Grange sprint, Lloyd took Insurrection straight to the front and never felt like he would be beaten.

He said the four-year-old skipped through the heavy ground and while he was able to get an unpressured lead, Insurrection handled the track conditions better than his rivals.

“No horse could go as fast as he was going and especially on that ground, he was just gliding through it,” Lloyd said.

“Where he was comfortable, the others weren’t.”

The victory gave Lloyd back-to-back wins in The Warra (1000m) after his success aboard Athelric last year.

Insurrection ($6) had two lengths to spare over Quick Tempo ($5.50) with Recommendation ($8) another head away third.

While the winner is yet to taste victory beyond 1100m, Lloyd has no doubt he can stretch his brilliance should trainer Michael Freedman look at a race like the Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) at Randwick in a fortnight.

“Most definitely. He is such a well natured horse and he relaxes so well when he gets to the front,” Lloyd said.

“He is always so strong the last 100, even at 1100 last season, so I think 1200 is no worries.”
