Yulong has secured a 50 per cent stake in exciting filly Well Written, who will continue to race under the guidance of Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh.
The powerhouse racing and breeding operation moved to invest following the Written Tycoon filly’s dominant Group 2 Soliloquy Stakes (1400m) victory, which followed her runaway maiden win and marked her as one of the most promising three-year-olds in New Zealand.
Marsh said the transition has been seamless, with the original ownership group retaining their shares.
“All the original owners have stayed in, so it’s been an easy process,” Marsh said.
“If she continues to perform the way we expect, she’ll likely campaign in Australia as a four-year-old.”
Well Written is the current $2.60 favourite for next month’s Group 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton, and Marsh confirmed she has thrived since her latest performance.
“She came through her last run really well and worked beautifully on Tuesday with Matt Cartwright aboard,” Marsh said.
“The 1000 Guineas and The NZB Kiwi are both major targets and appealing races for Yulong. It’s incredibly exciting to have their support in the stable.”
Marsh will also line up Little Black Dress in the 1000 Guineas, currently a $16 chance following placings in the Soliloquy and the Group 3 Sunline Vase (1400m).
“She has improved with each run and the big mile at Riccarton should really suit her,” he said.
