Champion mare Winx has a new half-sister and the newborn could become the most expensive filly born in Australia this year.
Vegas Showgirl, the dam of Winx, gave birth to a filly by Japanese stallion Deep Impact at 11am on Tuesday morning.
Deep Impact, one of the worlds most sought after stallions, passed away in July this year after suffering a cervical fracture so if being Winx’s half sister isn’t valuable enough his last progeny will be highly sought after.
The bay foal was born at Segenhoe Stud in the Hunter Valley and is estimated to be worth up to $5 million – although owner-breeder John Camilleri says he has no plans to sell her.
Four time Cox Plate winner Winx and arguably Australia’s best ever racehorse was retired earlier this year.
