So what do we classify as bigger?
Winx making the front page of the Daily Telegraph? Being on the Sunrise TV show, or this latest one….a feature on her because she is big, bold, beautiful and the best ever, in Vogue Australia of all magazines?
I’m going to say the latest.
In the April edition of Vogue the greatest racehorse ever born in Australia is featured in glorious colour, coutrtesy of fashionable pics taken by Justin Ridler.
The story about her is done professionally and accurately by Vogue’s fashion editor, Philippa Moroney, and Winx shares the pics with an equally talented fashion model.
Part-owner Debbie Kepitis is quoted throughout the story. Here’s an example.
“Winx is a very independent woman who knows her mind,” says Kepitis, who is one of the mare’s three owners. “She understands what she is doing and has an amazing will to win. She will put in every ounce of her body to get to that winning post. [Her jockey] Hugh Bowman said at the end of her last Cox Plate win: ‘It was like her body was electric. I could sense the electricity running through her to get to that winning post.’”
According to Kepitis, Winx not only enjoys racing, but is entirely aware of what is going on around her. “I do think she feels it and she gets a buzz out of it … you can see it in her body language,” she says. “She knows when it’s race day, because her routine varies a bit. When she gets to the track, she looks proud to be there as she gets saddled up. The same thing happens when she enters the theatre of the horse – she’ll pose. She knows it’s game day, that it’s important for her to concentrate and she walks with purpose. After the race she stops, looks at the crowd and looks at the cameras so they can take a photo,” she says, laughing.
“It’s actually unbelievable.”
In two more Saturday’s Winx races for the very last time. It will be a day of mourning and it will deprive the world of seeing the best horse, racing anymore. The one who has proven to be the Usain Bolt of equine athletics.
But, Vogue, who has already started running promo pics of the story on social media, has made sure her name has reached into places across the globe that perhaps, possibly, maybe they hadn’t heard of her before.
But I doubt that.
