What the jockeys said after the running of the $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

KERRIN McEVOY (Sepoy) 1st: “It just couldn’t have worked out any better. The longer he was in the barriers the better he stood and then he began well. I couldn’t believe when we jumped and the run we got. At the 600 metres I was confident of winning. I’ve got one to go now – the Cox Plate.”

DANNY NIKOLIC (Mosheen) 2nd: “She ran out of her skin. She had a nice run in the race following Clarry’s filly (Satin Shoes). Just coming to the turn I was probably the only horse on the bridle with Sepoy so I elected to stay on his back. He beat me fair and square but it was a huge effort for a filly that is very relaxed and got a great attitude for racing. She’s got three-year-old written all over her.”

JIM CASSIDY (Elite Falls) 3rd: “She ran enormous. The barrier didn’t help, I had to go back but she ran an enormous race.”

CRAIG WILLIAMS (Masthead) 4th: “Very gallant. Lee (Freedman) has done a great job with him, the horse gave me a great run throughout and ran a great fourth in the Golden Slipper. He probably holds the same form as when he ran in the Blue Diamond, three lengths off the winner Sepoy who is the champion two-year-old.”

JOSH PARR (Altar) 5th: “They were just that little bit better than her but she went super.”

DAMIEN OLIVER (Shared Reflections) 6th: “Nice run, I just think she’ll be better suited over a little bit further.”

NASH RAWILLER (Foxwedge) 7th: “He ran terrific right up until 150 metres out. I don’t know, he seems to have pulled up okay, I just thought his action wasn’t as good as it has been. It just gives me the impression he was feeling something otherwise I’m sure he would have finished closer.”

LUKE NOLEN (Salade) 8th: “He got a little way back getting into a spot. He’ll make a really nice three-year-old come the spring.”

HUGH BOWMAN (Satin Shoes) 9th: “I was confident mid-race but I was gone at the turn.”

TOMMY BERRY (Karuta Queen) 10th: “She has had enough now. She did everything right, she sprinted as well as she ever has but the sprint only went for 150 metres this time. She’s going to come back a nice three-year-old.”

BEN MELHAM (Running Tall) 11th: “He’s probably better at seven furlongs (1400m).”

COREY BROWN (Hot Snitzel) 12th: “I know he’s still learning but he was very busy today and just did everything wrong. He just ran off the track and I couldn’t steer him. He’s a next preparation horse.”

NATHAN BERRY (Saramenha) 13th: “We had to go back from the barrier and for her to run down some of those horses would have been near impossible. She’s probably looking for 1400 metres to a mile now.”

MICHAEL RODD (Empress Rock) 14th: “A nice filly for the future.”

SCRATCHED AT THE BARRIERS:

GLEN BOSS (Smart Missile): “He was a bit fractious when he went in but he was very calm about it. I was pleading with the vet.”

GLYN SCHOFIELD (Fast And Sexy): “She was scratched, I didn’t ride her bad, though.”
