What the jockeys said after the running of the $2 million Group One Doncaster Mile at Randwick on Saturday.
TIM CLARK (Sacred Choice) 1st: “I travelled so well and she only had 52 kilograms on her back and she loves the going. She was just too good for them, she powered away from them. (The rain) obviously brought her right into the race. I thought she was a good chance before that but when the rain came it just really brought her into the race.”
CHRIS MUNCE (Love Conquers All) 2nd: “It is probably a PB for him, he probably couldn’t have gone any better.”
SCOTT SEAMER (BOLD GLANCE) 3rd: “Very nice effort. I got back a shade further than I wanted to but it was either that or I was going to get smashed. Honest run for a someone they gave no hope to.”
ROD QUINN (Syreon) 4th: “He ran a really good race. He just lost his footing around the home corner and it most probably cost him running second. Would have run second for sure.”
BRENTON AVDULLA (Ilovethiscity) 5th: “He ran super. I ended up with a nice run and wanted to follow More Joyous hoping she would take me to at least the 200-metre mark but she took me to the top of the straight. He made a long 400-metre run and for him to run fifth was a good effort.”
GLEN BOSS (Aloha) 6th: “She didn’t handle it.”
HUGH BOWMAN (Danleigh) 7th: “Bit wet for him but he ran the race of his life. His wheels were spinning in that ground.”
PETER WELLS (Keepin’ The Dream) 8th: “Ran unbelievable. He fell in a hole at the 600-metre mark on the shifty going and picked himself up and finished great.”
COREY BROWN (Pureness) 9th: “He had every chance.”
CHRISTIAN REITH (Happy Hippy) 10th: “She ran super. We were hoping to sneak up on the fence but that wasn’t going to happen because everyone saw that last race (the Oaks). To her credit she got held up a little bit but once she got clear she hit the line really strong.”
NASH RAWILLER (More Joyous) 11th: “She was just not herself. I was following the winner and was very concerned before the corner. We just couldn’t come into the race and she was under hard pressure to just keep on the bridle. She wasn’t happy in the ground either.”
DWAYNE DUNN (Dao Dao) 12th: “Didn’t handle the track and from barrier 17 was a bit difficult.”
GLYN SCHOFIELD (Centennial Park) 13th: “He didn’t quite handle the track.”
JIM CASSIDY (Triple Elegance) 14th: “Travelled beautiful in the run but when I went to let down I just never quickened in the ground at all.”
CRAIG WILLIAMS (Wall Street) 15th: “Raced really well, he started to come into it and he felt coming to the top of the rise if he kept his momentum he was going to run right into the finish but he only went for another 100 yards and capitulated and finished out the back.”
KATHY O’HARA (Brilliant Light) 16th: “He had a tough run and tired.”
LUKE NOLEN (Captain Sonador) 17th: “Struggled in that track.”
