What the jockeys said after the running of the 150th Group One AJC Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
GLEN BOSS (Shamrocker) 1st: “She’s so relaxed and we got some really soft sectionals. I have supreme confidence in her, she has great lung capacity and like all good mares she can suck it up.”
KERRIN McEVOY (Retrieve) 2nd: “I had to do a bit of work early to get into the spot I wanted. I was happy in the end where we got to, he switched off and fought on with the filly. She (Shamrocker) is smart but I was really proud of him today.”
LUKE NOLEN (Anacheeva) 3rd: “He ran well. Physically he’s not as furnished as the others. When he fills out and comes back in the spring I think you’ll see a better horse.”
COREY BROWN (Praecido) 4th: “Good run, he’s just a really honest stayer.”
HUGH BOWMAN (King Gladiator) 5th: “It was a great run. He just needs a bit more seasoning and he will make a nice stayer in the spring.”
JONATHAN RIDDELL (Jimmy Choux) 6th: “It might have proven one step too far this campaign. He raced like a tired horse. He had a nice run but he’s had a busy time. We thought he was right but we were wrong.”
STEVEN ARNOLD (I Think I Do) 7th: “The last furlong (200m) it seemed like he didn’t stick it out.”
NASH RAWILLER (Light Brigade) 8th: “He raced below his best. He might be ready for the paddock but he had every chance.”
CRAIG WILLIAMS (Domesky) 9th: “We had a lovely run but when the pressure came on at the top of the rise I asked him to extend and he didn’t.”
DWAYNE DUNN (Shadowofexcellence) 10th: “Two stone lighter and he’ll be better.”
GLYN SCHOFIELD (Masquerader) 11th: “Didn’t quite stay.”
KATHY O’HARA (High Density) 12th: “He was outclassed.”
MICHAEL RODD (He’s Remarkable) 13th: “Ordinary.”
CHRISTIAN REITH (Ducarius) 14th: “He got over the crossing a bit awkwardly and he never stretched out after that.”
