A high-profile set of barrier trials crucial to the spring preparations of some of Australia’s leading racehorses has become the latest casualty of ongoing wet weather, with Racing NSW forced to adjust its early-season schedule.
The 17 trials originally scheduled for Randwick on Tuesday have now been postponed to Thursday following torrential rainfall that has dumped more than 150mm on the area in the past five days.
New South Wales racing has been heavily impacted, with recent race meetings lost at Narrandera, Scone, Tuncurry, Newcastle, Wyong, and Taree due to unsafe track conditions caused by the persistent downpours.
Further disruptions have occurred in the Northern Tablelands region, with Gunnedah abandoned ahead of Tuesday’s meeting, and Quirindi’s Thursday fixture relocated to Tamworth.
With the spring carnival fast approaching, Racing NSW will be closely monitoring track conditions across the state to ensure minimal disruption to key lead-up events and trials for the nation’s top gallopers.
