The first Group One race of the Sydney autumn is set to be run on a heavy track.
Warwick Farm has been rated a heavy (9) for Saturday’s Chipping Norton Stakes meeting after receiving 103mm of rain in the past 48 hours.
Racing NSW deputy chairman of stewards Greg Rudolph hoped the track might improve on the back of warm weather in Sydney on Friday and a forecast for mainly fine conditions on Saturday.
“There is an area near the 1300-metre mark which is still very heavy but the rest of the track has a good grass cover and with the current weather forecast the track should be on the improve today and tomorrow,” Rudolph said.
A further track inspection of Warwick Farm will take place at 6am (AEDT) on Saturday.
