Peter Hulbert is the least worried trainer about the heavy rain in Brisbane this week.

Doomben received more than 60mm on Wednesday and more showers are predicted for Saturday.

Hulbert and his son Will co-train Cooroi Chase who is after valuable black-type in the Listed Bobby Clarke Mode Stakes at Doomben.

Cooroi Chase is a last-start winner by more than four lengths on a heavy track at Doomben two weeks ago to take her wet form to three starts for two wins and a second.

Hulbert believes Cooroi Chase is adept on any surface but particularly effective in the wet.

“It has been said plenty of times about plenty of horses. The big plus for them is that many other horses just don’t handle the heavy going,” Hulbert said.

“It doesn’t take much to work that out.”

Cooroi Chase who was bred by her owners, the Sherrin Rural Group, and has already earned $190,000 prize money, will again be ridden by Tiffani Brooker.

“Right from when she won a trial by 16 lengths before her first start she has shown above average ability,” Hulbert said.

“She is already a valuable broodmare of the future and we would obviously like to get black type for her this summer.”

Former top jockey of the 1950-70s Bobby Clarke has been honoured by having his name added to the Mode Plate.

Clarke held the Australian record for many years for the longest priced winner when Magic Wind won a race at Doomben at 330-1 in 1956.
