Racing WA will next weekend host the second edition of the world’s only tri-code slot race series – the TABtouch Western Trilogy.
WA’s richest three days of racing will be held from April 18 to April 20 when The Sandgroper, The Nullarbor and The Quokka are all run and won.
Last year’s inaugural Western Trilogy generated almost $6 million for the WA economy, with nearly 8000 racegoers attending the three slot races.
Racing and Wagering Western Australia CEO Ian Edwards said the Western Trilogy was an innovative concept that showcased WA’s thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing codes.
“Our State is home to a $1.3 billion racing industry, which involves more than 25,000 people from participants to volunteers and connects communities from Kununurra to Albany,” Ian said.
“The TABtouch Western Trilogy celebrates racing in our State, while attracting champions from the east coast to WA to take on our best and vie for the almost $7 million in prizemoney on offer.
“As the world’s only tri-code race series, the Western Trilogy is bold and innovative and truly showcases the world-class racing across the three codes here in Western Australia.”
The Sandgroper, WA’s richest greyhound race worth $600,000 in prizemoney, will be held at Cannington on Thursday, April 18.
The $1.25 million Nullarbor is Australia’s richest Group 1 harness race and will take place at Gloucester Park on Friday, April 19.
Talented Victorian pacer Catch A Wave is set to make his presence felt, venturing to WA to vie for Nullarbor success for slot holders, Regency Foods.
The Western Trilogy culminates with The Quokka, worth $5 million, at Ascot Racecourse on April 20.
Inaugural Quokka winner Overpass, prepared by Sydney-based trainer Bjorn Baker, is returning to WA to defend his crown, representing the RAM Racing Syndicate.
However, he has a class field to contend with, featuring stars including last year’s runner up, Amelia’s Jewel, and progressive three-year-olds Oscar’s Fortune and Ripcord.
