Well Written secures first slot for $4m The Kiwi

Not surprisingly, Well Written is the first horse locked in for the NZ$4 million slot race, The Kiwi, which will be contested at Ellerslie on Champions Day..

In spite of only having raced three rimes Well Written has been turning heads and making headlines since winning on debut over 1200m back on September 20. At Ellerslie.

Given her clearcut, exposed early ability, trainer Stephen Marsh wasted little time with the filly, quickly lining her up in Group 2 company in the Windsor Park Stud Soliloquy Stakes on October 18, 2025, again at Ellerslie, but this time over 1400m which resulted in another fluent win.

So why not tackle Group 1 company next, where Well Written was again triumphant in the Group 1, 1000 Guineas on November 8, 2025, at Riccarton Park, this time over 1600m when again making light of the step up in distance to 1600m.

It was a flawless, undefeated, opening campaign, which not only turned heads, but one which also had one of racing’s thoroughbred and breeding giants reaching for the pocket as Yulong stepped up to purchase fifty percent of the ownership of Well Written … and that came as early as right after the filly’s Group 2 win.

Her future schedule has, for obvious reasons, attracted has attention far and wide.

With the deal for Well Written to race for the slot held by Entain, New Zealand, in the Kiwi in March now secured and confirmed, there are still a couple of gaps in the calendar that have to be filled in before she takes on that challenge.

The Auckland Guineas over 1400m on December 26 has been pencilled in as being Well Written’s probably return assignment … before a likely tilt at the Karaka Millions, a race that Marsh had previously taken off the table, but one which is now firmly back on the radar.
