Champion mare Verry Elleegant may have run her last race following a below bar performance at Ascot overnight.
The Melbourne Cup and Caulfield Cup winner was eased down in the the final 100m by jockey Mickael Barzalona, finishing a well beaten ninth in the G1 British Champions Fillies And Mares Stakes.
The ownership group of Verry Elleegant was due to make a decision on her future after Sunday morning’s run with the mare holding a nomination for the Japan Cup which now looks unlikely.
