Pride of Jenni is edging closer to a return to racing after a dominant performance in a jump-out at Cranbourne on Monday morning.
Ridden by Craig Newitt, the seven-year-old mare and reigning Australian Horse of the Year led the 1000-metre heat from start to finish, winning by four lengths.
This marked her first official outing since the Champions Mile during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, where she bled from both nostrils.
Trainer Maher praised her progress, telling racing.com, “Her prep has been pretty smooth to date… she was quite impressive again this morning.”
He added that Jenniβs return was expected, with Newitt noting she gave a good feel and pulled up well.
Looking ahead, Maher named the G1 Queen of the Turf (1600m) at Randwick on April 12 as a potential target, though he hinted more trials could be needed before the race.
Pride of Jenni is currently a $15 chance with online bookmakers for the Queen of the Turf Stakes.
