Romantic Warrior extended his remarkable season with a stellar performance in Sunday’s Group One Yasuda Kinen (1,600m) at Tokyo racecourse.
Favoured to achieve his bold goal in Japan, Romantic Warrior powered through the rain-soaked turf to secure victory by half a length, piloted by the illustrious jockey James McDonald.
Normally articulate, McDonald was at a loss for words, struggling to adequately praise the Danny Shum Chap-shing-trained six-year-old after steering him to a fifth consecutive Group One triumph.
“He’s a champion racehorse, and this is a very proud day for all of us – the entire team. Showcasing him in Japan, in such a prestigious race, was incredibly special,” McDonald remarked.
“I’m nearly speechless riding this horse because he has a huge heart and always gives his best.”
Positioned in fifth from gate seven, Romantic Warrior traveled smoothly in the early stages and entered the home stretch poised menacingly on the outside of the leaders.
Briefly squeezed for space at the 400m mark, the Acclamation progeny was expertly guided out by McDonald, who then unleashed him down the Tokyo straight.
Romantic Warrior’s stamina surged as he took the lead 200m from the finish, storming through the line to complete a sensational treble.
