That was impressive.
The Neville Parnham trained Aurum Belle made it two wins from two starts when taking out the Listed Supremacy Stakes (for two-year-olds) over 1000m at Ascot … and the filly did so in the same compelling fashion as she did when comprehensively outgunning her opposition over the same track and distance on debut.
The daughter of Snitzel quickly built early speed and controlled the race from the front to the home turn in a run that duplicated her first-up effort … as did the strong kick she displayed when Brad Parnham gave Aurum Belle more rein in the home straight where she duly stretched away to again cement her victory by a decisive margin.
Putting her bona fides on notice with a 2 length victory on debut at Ascot at the end of February, the outstandingly bred, 2YO Aurum Belle has taken it up to stakes level in the Listed Supremacy Stakes over 1000m at Ascot.

While Aurum Belle did control the race throughout … as you might expect from a $1.35 favourite … her trait of not being fazed in any way by having runners snapping at her heels in the first half of the race underlined just what a professional performance this was by an inexperienced two-year-old.
All On Red ($10), already a two-time winner, tried to annoy Aurum Belle early by racing three-quarters of a length back to Aurum Belle’s outside, while, to All On Red’s outside, the $8 chance He’s a Machino, was also right there in the leading group, caught two wide, waiting to pick up the pieces should Aurum Belle falter.
On straightening though it quickly became apparent that this was an uneven battle.
All On Red had enough and started to drop away. He’s a Machino tried to fight on gamely but could do no more as Aurum Belle extended her lead in impressive fashion.
The $6 second favourite Snow Monkey, who raced along the inside rail in fourth place, tracking the leaders to the turn, made up ground in the first half of the straight to move into second place, momentarily looking like she may lay down a challenge to Aurum Belle, but the Parnham trained runner was having none of that and she quickly put Snow Monkey back in her place, making sure Snow Monkey would have to settle for second spot.
The Simon Miller trained Snow Monkey has now finished second to Aurum Belle in both of these runners starts, being beaten by 2.05 lengths in their first clash and 1.93 lengths this time around.
“She (Aurum Belle) was pretty raw in her first appearance, as most two-year-olds are, but she has obviously taken benefit from that,” said Neville Parnham, “and I’m confident there is more improvement in her.
“We planned for her to just tick long until the Karrakatta Plate, so we’ll front up in a fortnight’s time in the Gimcrack and then go on to the Karrakatta Plate. I can’t see her running in the Sires, but I think we will probably have better races down the track at the end of the year.
“While she continues to go like this, she looks like she is pretty exciting.”
The Gimcrack Stakes, a $200 000 Group 3 race, will be run at Ascot on April 4.
The Karrakatta Plate, a $500 000 Group 2 race over 1200m, will be run at Ascot on April 18 as part of the Quokka Raceday.
