Former Victoria Derby winner Warning has returned to Flemington to claim the Queen Elizabeth Stakes

Warning and Nash Rawiller have maintained their unbeaten record together with an all-the-way victory at Flemington.

Rawiller first teamed with Warning to claim the ATC St Leger Stakes (2600m) at Randwick on October 16 before his success in the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) on Saturday.

Sent out the $3.40 favourite, Warning scored by 1-¼ lengths from Sound ($8.50) with Wentwood ($5.50) a neck away third.

“I probably rode him similar (to the St Leger) but in a far nicer spot,” Rawiller said.

“Importantly I got him into a lovely rhythm and as he was out in front I was able to let him start going through his gears a fair way out and making it a staying test because that’s what he is.

“He’s a true stayer.”

Prepared by father-and-son training combination Anthony and Sam Freedman, Warning was originally purchased as a potential trade horse for Hong Kong.

But along the way, Warning won the 2019 Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) with Damien Oliver aboard.

“He showed he was a little too dour at that stage,” Sam Freedman said.

“He’s been a terrific horse for the stable. A real stable favourite and he’s been to every big dance, the Caulfield Cup, the Melbourne Cup and is obviously a Derby winner.

“He’s got such a good record here at Flemington and he’s a true stayer. Nash really gets on with him, gets him out of the gates and interested.”

Warning’s victory denied the connections of Lunar Flare and Wentwood their chances at a $200,000 bonus that was provided by the Victoria Racing Club.

Lunar Flare won the Moonee Valley Gold Cup but failed to fire on Saturday beating one runner home, while Wentwood finished third and was chasing the bonus having secured the Bendigo Cup at his previous outing.
