Read the latest racing updates and information out of Western Australia for their race meetings on Saturday, March 26th, 2022.
1-BROCK LEWTHWAITE
An emotional Brock Lewthwaite experienced one his best thrills in racing after a bold plan to win the WA Oaks (2400m) paid off in audacious fashion. His move to send Lady Chant third up into a mile and a half event at her fourth start proved a training masterstroke when she sliced her way between horses in the straight and sprinted past brave runner up Feels Danish. Returning $14. she was too strong for the girls and will get her chance against the boys in the WA Derby.
2-ALASKAN GOD
Alaskan God strengthened his claims for next fortnight’s WA Derby (2400m) after passing the biggest test of his career with flying colours. Facing black-type company for the first time, the son of Playing God underlined his staying credentials in the Schweppes-Melvista Stakes (2200m) when racing in the second half of the field and deep with cover, he finished powerfully. An exciting stayer in the making who can reel off an important turn of foot at the end of his races. After four straight victories he goes to the Derby as favourite and ended a good day for trainer Dan Morton after Buzzoom won first-up.
3-RYAN HILL
Since hanging up his saddle in December, the transition from jockey to trainer has pretty much been smooth sailing for Ryan Hill. After wins at Pinjarra, Mount Barker and Albany, he’s ticked off his first metro victory with new stable acquisition, Recapitulate, who worked home the best.
4-CHRIS PARNHAM/PARNHAMS
Chris Parnham set the tone early when he had Swear To God poised throughout, forged a path from the rear on Alien From Mars, rode out Buzzoom before partnering Alaskan Gold in the main race for three-year-old boys. Older brother Steven Parnham chimed in with a double, booting home Brooklyn Pier for trainer and dad, Neville Parnham and Recapitulate in the last.
5-JASON WHITING
Opportunity knocked for Jason Whiting who answered the late call to ride, Lady Chant. After more than 30 years without any joy in the WA Oaks, he has gone back to back in the Group 3 feature after Lunar Impact won a year ago.
6-TRIX OF THE TRADE
Trix Of The Trade lost the battle in the Melvista Stakes, but can he win the war and turn the tables on Alaskan God in the WA Derby? Forced to go back from a wide draw, he reeled off 33.72sec. for the final 600m, race fastest when one length astern of Alaskan God. He may have put to bed any staying queries and lost no admirers in defeat.
7- PREMIUM CHOICE
He came with a bit of a spruik from Esperance and with an ounce of luck he could of delivered at his first go in town for trainer Coreen Maynard. The lightly raced four-year-old missed the kick by a couple of lengths, was held up in the straight before finishing 1 ½ lengths behind Snipillicious. On that effort he’ll win in the city soon enough, but that was one that got away.
