It’s been a challenging journey for jockey Barend Vorster, who marks a year since his last ride at Morphettville’s meeting.
Battling concussion and neck issues, Vorster reflects on what feels like an eternity since he last graced the saddle.
“It feels like a lifetime,” Vorster told Racing.com, expressing the frustration of his prolonged absence.
Despite the setbacks, Vorster remains optimistic about his eventual return to race riding, emphasizing the progress made in recent months.
While his headspace improves, Vorster’s lingering neck concerns remain a hurdle, seeking further medical opinions to address structural issues in his C2 and C3 vertebrae.
“I’m due to see another specialist in March… to say it is what it is or there is something else they can try,” Vorster explained, highlighting his determination to explore all avenues for recovery.
Supported by his family and the racing community, Vorster maintains hope for his comeback, cherishing moments spent among horses and friends.
“It’s still hanging in the balance, but I am trying to stay hopeful,” Vorster affirmed, acknowledging the challenges ahead while clinging to the possibility of returning to the sport he loves.
