Racing Victoria stewards have launched an investigation into trainer Shawn Mathrick after a prohibited level of total carbon dioxide was detected in a pre-race blood sample.
The irregularity relates to a sample taken from Corniche prior to the gelding contesting the Wangoom Handicap at Warrnambool on May 6, where he finished 11th.
Racing Analytical Services Limited reported the sample exceeded the permitted threshold of 36.0 millimoles per litre in plasma, which is classified as a prohibited substance under the Australian Rules of Racing.
A confirmatory test conducted by the Racing Science Centre also returned a reading above the allowable limit.
Stewards first notified Mathrick of the irregularity on May 11 and have since advised him of the confirmatory findings as the investigation continues.
Further action will depend on the outcome of the inquiry as officials examine the circumstances surrounding the elevated TCO2 levels.
