After breaking his maiden status with a Ballarat win, Michelotti has repeated the dose at Sandown

Having progressed from a maiden win at Ballarat to midweek success at Sandown, the next win the connection of Michelotti hope to knock over will be a Saturday win in town.

Michelotti broke his maiden status for Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock with a victory at Ballarat on July 10 before his hard-fought win in the Ladbroke It! Handicap at Sandown on Wednesday.

Under a well-judged ride by Craig Williams, fresh off a quartet at Caulfield last Saturday, Michelotti ($8) scored a three-quarter length win from Distorted Mission ($26) with the $2.30 favourite Attrition a long neck away third.

De Kock said Michelotti was extremely fit following his Ballarat win which provided the gelding with the confidence to score again on Wednesday.

“He’s just been a bit lost in his races, but as young horses do, they develop with time and racing and he’s shown that today,” de Kock said.

“There is a big group of owners, and they came out in force today. They were at Ballarat last time and they were pumped there too.

“He was a cheap purchase, and I don’t think he will stop here.”

De Kock said the stable had picked out a 1500m race for three-year-olds at The Valley on August 20 as the next likely assault for Michelotti.

Williams said drawing barrier two and having first use of the Sandown track, which was downgraded from a Heavy 8 to a Heavy 9 before the first race, gave him options.

“The leader came off the fence and gave me room,” Williams said.

“He had a tendency of showing his inexperience, even though it was his seventh start today, he wanted to go left last time whereas today he was going out to where the competition was.

“He’s a lovely horse and he relished the conditions and I’m looking forward to seeing how he competes on top of the ground.”
