Racing Victoria veterinarians have cleared 20 of the 22 final acceptors for Saturday’s $6.55 million Caulfield Cup (2400m) following pre-race inspections.
Ciaron Maher’s Saint George remains under veterinary observation and will be examined again at Caulfield on race morning after undergoing re-plating.
The Maher-trained runner is among the leading contenders for the Group 1 staying feature, with his fitness to be assessed before a final decision is made on his participation.
Bjorn Baker’s Green Spaces is also awaiting clearance, with the Sydney-trained galloper scheduled to undergo a veterinary examination on Friday morning following his arrival in Melbourne.
Second emergency Juja Kibo, another member of the Maher stable, will also be inspected on Friday after travelling from Sydney.
The assessments are part of Racing Victoria’s mandatory veterinary protocols for major races, designed to ensure runners are fit to compete.
With the majority of the field already cleared, attention will now turn to the remaining inspections ahead of Saturday’s $6.55 million feature at Caulfield.
