A tweet by trainer Charlie Fellowes regarding a weight penalty for the Melbourne Cup has gone viral on twitter with over 800 likes within hours of it being made.
Charlie Followes the trainer of Geelong Cup winner Prince Of Arran has asked handicapper Greg Carpenter for a Melbourne Cup weight penalty for his horse to get him into this years Melbourne Cup Field.
Prince Of Arran currently sits 38th in the Melbourne Cup order of entry but a .5kg or 1kg penalty would almost guarantee the horse a start in the 2019 Melbourne Cup.
The market is with Prince Of Arran who ran third in last years Melbourne Cup pricing him on the sixth line of betting for the race at $19.
Today’s Geelong Cup was run in a very slick time which will aide Followes’ request with Greg Carpenter also tweeting about the horses ‘outstanding’ performance also saying an announcement of the penalty if any will be made on Thursday.
